Rim replacement
Hi,
Someone has offered me a set of wheels but the rear one has a 15mm crack in the rim near one of the spokes. They said they have been riding on it and it is fine but they managed to get a new rim from the manufacturer anyway.
I am thinking that if I get them then I may aswell replace the rim at the same time. If this is the right idea can anyone give me any idea how much it might cost to replace a rim and put the old spokes and hub in the new rim? Just want some bearing on how much I should offer them for the set. They are Mavis Ksyrium SSC SL's.
Many thanks [;)]

Replacement Ksyrium SL rim is something like œ90 and then you have to include the cost of the rebuild if not doing it yourself.0

By all means salvage the hub, but re-using the spokes may be a false economy. They aren't expensive, compared with the 'sod it' of having a worn spoke snap 50 miles after a rebuild.
It's always on the block side, too...0 -
The spokes should last much longer than the rim. They're not likely to snap if they're of good quality and the wheel was built well. Reusing them saves a quite a lot of work and money.
Like this a rim is replaced simply by moving spokes over one at a time from the old to the new rim.
A shop should charge about an hour's labour to replace the rim and tension and true the wheel, plus price of rim.
