Just dropped the Planet-X procarbon thingymabob off at the LBS for a bit of a seeing to as I thought it time it had a bit of a service, and I mentioned that I thought that there was a bit too much play in the rear and front wheels. I.e that thy "wiggle" across the line of the axle. This is even with the skewers done up tight.

The LBS started whingeing about a bad wheel build and that they weren't keen on doing anything and that I should speak to Planet-X, which I am doing, but was wondering if the forum had any views or experience of this with the same wheel set.

Reynolds Alta Comp is the wheel set.

Spokes breaking has been the main issue I've heard. It's a shame as Reynolds make some great wheels higher up the range.

    Hi Giggery-pokery.
I have the Alta-Race and they have been perfect thus far, love-them to bits.

Firstly, check the Reynolds website, they have info about the hubs (mine= 2007 Reynolds Attack and Solitude Rear Hub). Mine have a bearing adjuster that ensures that the sealed bearings sit tight on the axle which is independent of the skewer, bit like adjusting the cones on a regular hub. Maybe this is all you need to do to remove the sideways play.
Brandt at P-X was helpful as well.

  • Cheers for the info Fab, haven't had a mail back from Brant as yet but have pulled the info from the reynolds site and will drop it round to the LBS in a mo.

Was interested to see that one of the banner photo's of the old skool reynolds team is taken outside the tubing factory in Acocks Green Birmingham amd I drive past it every time I go to the municipal tip! Shame it's just reynolds TI that's there now as i would have popped in with my wheels and said "hey mister...." lol

Different companies now - Reynolds Composites are US based, Reynolds Technology (tubes) are still in Brum.
