Look pedals and wax

I have heard wax can stop the squeaking of old style look pedals. Does anyone know the best way to do this?
Thanks

Presume they mean by rubbing a candle or solid wax onto the flat area of the pedal - trouble is, it will be temporary only.0

A squirt of GT85 on pedals and cleats before a ride seems to work

Thanks for the responses.
I'd like to switch pedals to Time, but I have Looks on my old bike, and have just got a new one. I still intend to use the old bike, and so practicality and cost wise I think my best option is to buy another set of Looks (don't want to be switching cleats depending on what bike I'm riding, and don't want to buy two sets of pedals!).
The old Looks seem to be quite cheap now. The best I have found is Look 296s for œ24.99, anyone know of anywhere cheaper for old style Looks?
Thanks

...a silicone or wax furniture polish spray seems to work......all the way...'til the wheels fall off and burn...0
