Folks,

I'm looking for bike shop recommendations in Herts, anyone have any experiences?

I've found Leisure Wheels in Hemel Hempstead fairly good but Rock n Road in St Albans awful! I'm really looking for some good expert advice in choosing a road bike as well as good expert fitting/sizing advice. I may find a bikefitting.com place aswell. I want to spend a few quid so wanna get the right bike!

Cheers for any tips :)

Try Shorter Rochford in Potters Bar. They have a wide range of frames to choose from as well as their own named frames. They have ready made up bike from the likes of Pinarello, Bianchi, Trek, Specialised, or you can choose your own frame and have it built up to your spec. Darren who run this branch is very good.

So many roads, so little time!!!

Might be worthing giving Byercycles a call:-

It's in Clifton in Bedfordshire but only a couple of miles from the Herts border.

Got my Aravis Audax from there and I'm very happy with it and the service I received.

Hatfield Cycle Centre can be OK - more leisure rider than competitive clubman these days.
  • Buckingham Bikes in Aylesbury is excellent, alhough strictly speaking it's in bucks. But, it's well stocked, and the staff are knowledgeable. They sell Giant, Scott and a couple of others.

I have a bike; she's called Fran. I enjoy her company.

Another vote for Shorters in PB.

My frame's one of their own. Full carbon fibre - smooth, refind and rather sexy, very much like it's rider.

Nice bike though :) might be worth me talking to them about frames, I hadn't considered it before. I've been looking at the Giant TCR Alliance Zero (¶œ1250) and a couple of specialized but recently (in the last five mins) saw some posts around ProjectX frames...

    ...the quest continues.

Well, Shorter do about 4 or 5 different frames I think. From what the guy in the shop said, buying a shop frame means you tend to get a little more for your money (I guess he would say that though!).

I paid œ1650 for mine. For that I got a fulled carbon-lugged frame, DEDA carbon stem and crabon wrapped bars, carbon forks, Campag 2007 Zondas and full 07 Centaur group-set. So far it's been faultless and it's been ridden in all weathers for over a year. Not only that, but it weighs in at under 17lb (about 7.6kg). You'll go some to get a bike that light at that price.

If you're near St Albans, try St Albans Cycles in the Jersey Farm Estate.
Mind you I haven't been in there for several years
