Crystal Palace in the rain

For those of you on here who race at CP on Tuesdays, would I be right in thinking that the racing doesn't go ahead if it's wet? (I'd assume the technical nature of parts of the course would be a recipe for a crashfest).

Thanks.

You would be right. I don't race there myself but know that when it is wet they don't race as one of the corners is really slippy in the wet.

It's a dangerous circuit to ride in the wet. If it's actually raining it would be called off however it's at the discretion of the commissaires to decide what state the course is in.

I wish someone had told me that before I did the triathlon there a few weeks ago! what appeared to be rivers running over the circuit, life jackets were advised!!

What about Hillingdon - Does that keep racing in the rain? Also on tomorrow night...

I've never heard of a Hillingdon race being cancelled due to rain......you will get wet and expect grit in your teeth.

  • andyp if it rains at all today the race at CP probably won't go ahead as track takes ages to dry out as the dangerous corner is sheltered by trees and sometimes has slimey mud on it. Even when marshals try to brush it off due to materials used on path the mud tends to form a slick surface, it seems to get lodged in tiny dents in the path.

On the 8th day God made a bicycle, and he saw that it was good. (actually personally he thought it was his best invention yet)

I was still tired from Sunday's Highclere Castle Sportive and listened too much to the (doom laden) weather forecasters in the morning so rode to work on my commuting bike. Which isn't suitable for racing on. The weather looked glorious too.

    Next week maybe.
  • Was there as well, lovely weather for it but the insects are biting again this year, got a nice new red bump on the back of my hand where one of palace's residents stopped for a bite. Thanks to the duck ond and fishing lake in the middle of the course there's plenty about. I did the 3/4th race and stayed with the bunch but ended up around 15th in sprint, but happy that a clubmate won it. Speed was average of 24.5mph for the 3/4ths.
