hi just getting into some serious road cycling and the choice of makes and material is making me dizzy.
I have got œ1000 I have been looking at carbon bikes like the focus cayo (which seems to have really good reviews and the planet x.
I don't really know if carbon is the way to go? I just thought the lighter the better?
can anyone recomend me a good light starting bike?
any help would be great
cheers

  • Both of those bikes are brilliantly good value for money - full carbon at a cheaper price than most others are doing it at. The set-ups are good, and you wouldn't really need to upgrade, especially on the Focus Cayo, as that's got a full mavic/shimano set up anyway.
Or, you could spend a lot less if you wish. I have a giant scr 2.0 - aluminium framed tiagra/105 set up, and I love it. I am only riding it recreationally, so i don't need a full carbon jobby - as much as i lust after one. It's light, easy to carry with one hand, and really gets me around quickly (especially in comparison to the old giant mountain bike that i used to ride). Plus the œ500 less means you have more to spend on other stuff - such as shoes, pedals, inner tubes, jerseys and what not.

I have a bike; she's called Fran. I enjoy her company.

Don't get too hung up on the weight of the bike. Unless you are very fit you will get much greater benefits by spending a decent ammount of your budget on cycling clothing which will help you to get out on your bike more.

Hypocrisy is only a bad thing in other people.

  • Have a look what's in your local specialist shop.

Get them to measure you up and buy it. They should help avoid any confusion.

Thanks for your advice, regarding clothes do you think that clip in shoes are a must? I have seen some that you could walk about in as well rather than the harder type?
  • They aren't a must, but they really do increase performance by making sure that you are using the correct part of your feet to push with, preventing your feet slipping off the pedals, and distribute the pressure properly. - they take a short while to get used to, but soon it becomes second nature and you're fine. There are a few types, but the mountain bike ones have a thick tread and can be used for walking in, road shoes can't because of the sole and the size of the cleat.

  • This may be your luck day!!!

We have just confirmed our first order of Lamborghini bikes. They will be on sale shortly and we are proposing a promotion period for bike enthusiasts.

We'll be selling via EBay soon, deliver for mid July. I can send you the specifications via e-mail if you're interested. The Bikes are aluminium and naturally high specification. Aluminium is only a little heavier than carbon and doesn't shatter or split. Our shop is called Let It Rip Big Boy!!!

I know what you must be thinking $$$!!! However Lambo' take a different view to bike manufacturing compared to cars. The bikes will be reasonably priced believe it or not!! In fact Lamborghini fully understand cost effective manufacturing systems and apply it to all their products. Of course there cars are so exclusive in quality even efficient manufacturing systems can't make them cheap!

Incidentally the bikes are branded Torino Lamborghini which is the separation between the Lamborghini family branding. The logo is the same bull.

I know this all sounds like a spoof, but time will prove we are serious. Let me know if you're interested and I'll send you further details and proof of our rights to sell these puppies.

Take care and best of luck my friend!
