Missed this whilst being away....maybe the white jersey is a bit out of reach but looks like he's going to try to go for it whilst he is still in the race. So far, thats 5 Brits I can think of that are/could be lining up:

Millar
Wiggins
Thomas
Cavendish
Wegelius

Who have I missed? [:I] And what was the biggest number of UK riders to ride the TdF in any one year?

Hammond - not yet ruled out
    and Maggy's an honorary Brit
  • It's not confirmed yet that Cavendish will start.
  • And if he does start it could be at the expense of Hammond, which would be a shame

Most riders british was probably when ANC Halfords had a team in 1987 with Malcolm Elliot , Adrian timmis and Joey McGloughlin but do not remember how many in totalwere British?

I think Joey Mauglachlin wasn't at the 1987 TDF. ANC entered Kvetoslav Palov, Frenchmen Bernard Chesneau and Guy Gallopin, Graham Jones, Shane Sutton, Paul Watson, Adrian Timmis, Malcolm Elliot, Stephen Swart. ANC had 5 Brits, but Yates and Robert Millar at Fagor and Panasonic were also riding so total 7 Brits at the 1987 TDF. Throughout the late 1980s outwith 87 I can only remember Yates, Elliot and Millar riding the TDF. Paul Sherwen's last TDF was in 1985

Wales's Geraint Thomas, 2004 World Junior Track Champion, is celebrating a "dream come true" with his ride in next month's Tour de France confirmed. It will be the first time a Welshman has ridden in the world's greatest cycling race since Colin Lewis rode in the Tour for Raleigh back in the 1960s.

That's damn unlucky if it's correct. Schrek and Grabsch are the two most dubious selections, but they are both experienced pros, and I guess Grabsch helped his cause by winning the German TT champs... but still disappointing.
  • Well, if this is true, I'm not too fussed. I'd prefer to see Cavendish ride the Vuelta this year and gain experience there.

    tea is good
  • I think the tour site may be incorrect. Schreck isn't even on the 13 man provisional list on the teams website so how come he's down on le tour's site?

Grabsch should ride though, he is on great from.

I think Guerini/Merckx/Hammond/Cavendish and Bernucci are fighting for the last 2 spots.

hammond didn't really do much in the TdS

  • Jet Lagged apparently and its not exactly a race which suits a rider of his ability. Only 1 genuine flat stage, right at the beginning when sprinters are all interested. 1 other bunch sprint. I think they were testing whether he could get over the mountains ok. He came better towards the end.

that's true. but i suspect coming 131/137 may not have done his case many favours, especially with cavendish adding to palmares.

  • They would be mad not to put Cavendish in the team - T-Mobile have a huge UK business, and a Brit winning in Canterbury would secure massive coverage.

I think Hammond deserves a spot too.

babel fish, very funny, but interesting:

The German ProTourploeg t t-Mobile have its house work for the coming tour this way good as finished. Already renners consider be certainly of their stek. The head man becomes without only doubt the australi‰r Michael Rogers. To be betrachting become top ten obtain. Moreover also the new British spurtsensatie mark Cavendish, Gent-Wevelgemwinnaar Marcus Burghardt, candidate white pullover Linus Gerdemann, Patrik Sinkewitz, Bernhard Eisel (in spite of earlier reporting) and kim Kirchen has been selected. Also the Belgian veteran axel Merckx weet itself certainly of its plaatsje. The last place will be seen normally to the italiaan Giuseppe Guerini. The plough control of t t-Mobile commits today in Bonn ultimate consultation with the renner see if he fit are enough for the tour. Guerini had give up in the past round of Switzerland because of sickness. The italiaan pulls out, then or Lorenzo Bernucci, or Bert Grabsch get a chance.

  • I've also read Cavendish is still in the frame, so the official Tour site have it wrong at the moment.

If you need to translate an article there are several translation programs on the internet, like: http://babelfish.altavista.com

If you can't be bothered and expect somebody else to do it for you then wait for wait for peejay78 or stop being so lazy.

Its got bugger all to do with being lazy - just posting the link to your article is sufficient. Don't clutter up the screen with useless text the vast majority can't understand but can, if they wish, translate using the translation programme you suggest. Is that too difficult for you to do?
