I am just about set to fit 105 from Sora on my Allez (touch wood the final tool should arrive tomorrow).

This is my first go at a complete groupset change and the question is what order is best.

My thoughts are:
Crankset
Rear and front derailleurs, calipers, cassette
Chain
Levers
Cables
Sort the gears and brakes
Bar tape

Any advice would be really appreciated - if I c*ck this up I will be missing out on some quality rides.

cheers
steve

  • My advice would be to give the bike a complete strip + re-build icluding headset, seatpin out etc down to bare frame. Give the frame a good clean + wax then re-assemble Make sure you take measurments of saddle/bar/stem height/positon etc so you can get it all exactly the same as before.
Park do a good guide here for position measurement:-

    Chart for recording measuments:-

It may be worth getting your LBS to face and chase the threads on your BB as you're fitting an external bearing BB. I'd strip the entire frame of the old parts and give it a good clean and polish first, and my general sequence would be: cassette, BB, cranks, rear mech, front mech, shifters, brakes, cables runs, chain, adjust gears and brakes and finally bar tape. Use electrical tape to hold the cables in place and have a quick test run to check lever position etc before committing to the bar tape.
