Freewheel hub going wrong again
I have a hybrid bike with a 7-speed freewheel. It cost œ250 six or seven years ago, since when I've had to replace the back wheel twice already because the hubs have given up, and a third time I replaced just the axle. The rear hub has started making a nasty grinding sound so I think it's knackered AGAIN. I don't give it a particularly hard time, though I don't do any maintenance on the hub either. I may be wrong, but I just don't think much of the quality of these cheap hubs.
So what's my best bet, not having much money to spare?
- to replace the back wheel yet again with one having a similar quality hub, and expect it to last only two years (about œ25-œ30)?
- pay for a better quality hub? (will that mean a better quality whole wheel too? - how much œœ?)
- new bike (œ250)?
- or can it be fixed?
Opinions very welcome.

Sounds like you're suffering from poor quality wheels - replacing them with something with a decent hub with sealed bearings should give you a few years of life - you should be able to get a half-decent pair of wheels for œ80-100 or rear wheel for œ50-60 - something like Shimano Deore - you'll be able to use them on any future bike upgrade in the future.0
