Hi,

Well, new wheels are needed. I liked my egg-shaped Alex's but I guess it's time to move on.

Weekends I do a 80-100k ride, with a 100mile ride coming up this summer. The Alex will still be used to commute. I am not a racer (too slow) nor a climber (too BL$œ%^y slow).

<b>What I want to achieve</b> is - new strong, reliable wheels, that will stay round and true to me. Bomb proof? Better. Extra Extra light? Sure, though it is not my #1 concern.

I have <b>set my eyes on a set of Fulcrum 5</b> ()http://www.totalcycling.com/index.php/manufacturer/fulcrum/WH_FULCRUM_RACING_5.html but, <b>the 7 come in red</b>... there is a œ60 + diff from the 7s... are they worth it?

In the price range we also have the <b>Mavic Ksyrium Equipe </b>http://www.totalcycling.com/index.php/product/parts_accessories/wheels_road/WH_MAVIC_KSYRIUM_EQUIPE.html
Is there a diff? Which would you choose?

Or would you rather opt for a 'manual' build? Which then?

Just for ref - I have Ultegra 9s...

Thank you!

A'z

Only one way to swim 100m free style - you start as hard as you can, then slowly accelerate.

Try looking at the Xero's, I've had a couple of sets (XCR and carbon) and I'm very happy with them. Lightweight reliable & cheap to service. Some good offers here :-

I upgraded to Fulcrum 5's last year - very pleased with them. Remain true and smooth and look great! Don't know if the 7's are worth the extra as the 5's were more my budget, but know of several others who have had a couple of reliable years service out of various Fulcram's.

wait a minute, aren't the 5s more expensive than the 7s???

caracolito, you won't go wrong with either set. you might want to look at shimano wheels as well. underrated. very smooth hubs, somewhat aerodynamic, strong and reliable.

Yes, the 7 are cheaper. I meant are the 5s worth the extra œœœ, especially as they don't come in red...

Seems Fulcrum 5s it is... probably from http://www.wiggle.co.uk as GB are out of stock, and I couldn't find cheaper.

I will report back once I actually reach into my dust filled pocket...

How does œ126 with free delivery sound for the Racing 5's

A few people on here have used them and seem pleased, although I noticed they're in the process of moving and new orders won't be despatched until next week.

Let me know how you get on, I'm thinking about trying them and these wheels look great for the money.
