Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade Mrs Pizzaduck's 700C wheels from the crappy Rigida hoops to something a bit more substantial for touring. Any suggestions? Searches on the interest only seem to reveal racing or MTB wheels. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

  • I think Spa Cycles specialise in touring stuff. Someone on here recommended their handbuilt wheels too I think.

The other shop that springs to mind is Paul Hewitt in Leyland.

All good advice, but you might also just go to your LBS and get them to build up some wheels to your specification. That way you can get the hub, spokes and rims you'd like. Here is a link to some fantastic touring wheel combinations, scroll down a fair way. FYI I use White Industries M15 MTB hubs, 36 hole Velocity Dyad rims and 28 or 32 mm tyres and they are great for road touring

It may be a bit OTT for your needs, but we got some very good 700c wheels built by St Johns Street Cycles, using Sun Rhyno rims. Very bomb proof, but quite heavy.
