Pendleton on the road

Wouldn't that be great - having both Cooke and Pendelton in the Olympic RR? Anyone know if Vicky P has any form on the road?

I've never heard of Vicky doing any road racing but if she says she will do it you can be sure she will give it a good go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From the Beeb report:
"Welsh rider Nicole Cooke is Britain's leading female road racer, with Pendleton the pin-up girl on the track."
Pin up girl? Such crap, lazy journalism.0 -
Another artice described Nicole Cooke as 'up and coming'. Just how much further does she have to go before being considered to have arrived?0
-
It makes it sound as if she is being forced into it though.
Seeing as the top road racing is done on the continent, it would be quite a big commitment for VP and one that I would have thought she would already have made if her heart was in it.
Unless she is planning to compete in the Olympic RR with no pro experience, in which case I seriously doubt her chances against Vos and co.0 -
Its another poke in the eye for cycling. Poor Vicky is only considering the road cos her best event is beind dropped from the olympics, just as Chris Hoys best event has also gone.
All to accomodate things like beach volleyball etc.
What next, scrabble as an olympic event.
Im all for new sports in the olympics but why drop traditional events, if there isnt enough space for a new event, tough luck.

If she can get to the 300 m marker in the right position I don't see anyone in the womens peleton coming round her.

Italian Vera Carrara did the same last year: a trackie, she took part in the road race in the World Championships. Didn't do much, though, other than a brief break off the front during one of the later laps.

Andy.
BMX, now there is a misnomer.
MX stands for motor Cross (sic). If its got a motor its not cycling.
Why is it either or? Volleyball wasnt droped from the olympics cos beach volley ball was included. So I say again, one in the eye for cycling.

Quite a few good road riders have come from BMX, I don't see the problem. Cycling has a lot of events already, I personally don't want to see the Kilo go, but other sports deserve a try. One thing I don't like about cycling fans in this country is the amount of whining they do. If its not Eurosport coverage its terestrial coverage and whats written in the press. All minority sports have to put up with this, most people aren't interested in cycling and thats the way its probably going to stay.0

Looks as though they want skateboarding in for 2012 and it is being supported by the UCI !!!!!!

Maybe the UCI will suggest dropping one of the more traditional cycling events to make space.

PS> At the risk of stereotyping skateboarders, I am not sure that skateboarding will do much for reducing the UCI drug problem!

Exactly what method says. BMX has been an entry sport for some time now for those getting into cycling: from the GB track squad Hoy, Reade, Staff all started in BMX, as did McEwen and Perreiro in the ProTour to name just a couple.

I quite don't see why the track events needed to be dropped even if BMX was introduced. Why simply not add another day onto the track time (and shift forward the BMX) or squeeze it into the existing time. Its not as if they can be done at the same place. Different sports always occur at the same time throughout the Olympics so the TV coverage would only need to accommodate this. A bad decision in my view and one with someone/group wishing to exert political muscle somewhere.

To be honest I'd rather watch the BMX than the Kilo as I personally find Track cycling comparable with snooker in terms of excitement. I'd rather watch anything than Track cycling on TV. I recognise the skill/training required for these events but to be honest they are just weightlifting on a bike rather than requiring any form of tactical thinking.
Just my 2 cents0 -
Angrynortherner, if you didn't find the last Olympic kilo exiting, then perhaps you should check to see that you have a pulse!0

I'm sorry track cycling just doesn't do it for me, once again I admit I admire the training and dedication of the athelete but it's like watching Nascar on TV, the sight of people going around and around in a circle just doesn't do it for me if one of them is MS Pendleton.
Give me mountains any day.0
