Hi forum goers,
After a year riding fixed on my converted 531 road bike, I thought it was time to treat myself to a nice new off the shelf shiny fixie for the summer, so i've sold the geared bike on ebin and got me a new bike. Lets not name names and just call it "The new bike", anyhow the new bike has got the ability to have a front brake, I want to fit a front brake (as I am used to riding my other fixed with 2 brakes), anyone got any ideas for a lever caliper combo where I can mount the lever on the flat of the bars?
TIA [;)]

odyssey make brake levers with hinge suitable for the tops of drop bars.
Perhaps not the cheapest, but they're riders.

Broachboy,
I looked at a Goldfinger lever last week, but decided that one finger wasn't going to stop me at 20-25mph (i.e., when I need it to). I know that they're the latest must-have, but erred on the side of caution and went for a Canecreek cyclocross lever instead. The brake is there for a reason after all...0 -
IF you must have only one, then make sure that it is the very best that money can buy!

Thanks for all the replies guys [;)]
nice fixie [:p] jakob, really cool [8D]
in fact if I went for a bull horn option, the brake lever worries would be sorted easier, its just that I don't wanna loose my bare track bike 'looks' [:I] - yeah ok I know - wannabees and all that, but I worked my ass off for this bike [:)][;)][^]

My commuter bike has low-pro bars, RX100 calipers upgraded with Kool Stop pads and Dia-Compe 188 bar-end levers. They're as good as any brake setup I've ever had.
Don't you think low-pro bars on fixies confer a certain "courier chic" ?0 -
I tried the Tetro cross lever, didn't like it, it felt there was less modulation control, went back to my normal 1980 vintage Campag Super Record lever!
