I'm wanting to buy a new bike for work via cycle to work scheme.

I want a Specialized Langster.

My question is, is the 52 frame of the Langster comparable to the 52 frame of my squadra. It's an online purchase so unable to try out first.

Or should get next size up - 54?

What's people's view?

Thanks

  • Should be easy - after all you have one of them to measure and all the geometry for the other is here:

Seat Tube Length, Center to Top
    480mm 52cm
Seat Tube Length, Center to Center
    430mm 47cm
    Top Tube Length (Horizontal)
    537mm 53.7cm
    Seat Tube Angle
    74 74
    Head Tube Angle
    72.5 72
    Head Tube Length
    130mm 13.5cm

Langster 52 frame figures on the left. I'm presuming the 4cm difference in seat tube length is not that important as I'll just higher the seat appropriately.

    Thanks

Like I said the Langster 52 seems almost the same as my squadra 52 apart from the seat tube length - see dimensions above

The company running the cycling 2 work scheme say that based on my height I should get a 54

The 54's seat tube dimensions are still shorter, but the top tube is longer by a cm... I guess I should go with the 54. Advice welcomed?

Height ALONE is not a very good guide! Inside leg length equally as relevant, if not more so. The figures you quote show the top tubes the same - why do you reckon a cm longer?

Sorry for the confusion the figures I've shown are the 52 Langster vs 52 Squadra

The 54 Langster top tube length is 54.8cm vs 53.7cm (Langster and Squadra 52)

I think I'll get the 54 Langster and get a shorter stem if needs be

I'm only commuting on it 7 miles each way

    Thanks for help fella

personally I'd be tempted to go the other way - get the 52 and a longer stem if needed.

The bike will probably come with a 100mm stem and it is easier to get 120, 130+ than to get 90's etc

The only thing that worries me is that the general rule of thumb they are applying is that people 5'3" to 5'6" are suited to the 52 and they say I'll be more towards the 54 for my height - 5'9"

    Thanks
