a car passed me a bit to close on my commute home last night,After shouting some abuse & fist waving i caught them up at a set of traffic lights,i was ready for a rant when the passenger wound down the window & a little old lady about 80 said " im really sorry we didnt know we had passed you that close"
I just couldnt get mad at her! I know some old drivers are dangerous but you just cant abuse them,Can you ?

What's the bet her eyesight is knackered?
Old drivers = potentially dangerous drivers.
Anyone see the Jo Brand programme on older drivers last week? I say retest all driver (including myself) every 5-10 years and if they don't pass then they lose their license.

That would be discriminatory/ageist surely. ALL drivers should be retested every 5 years and the test needs to be made much harder to pass too. Maybe we could have safer streets without all the terrible driving standards.

+ If you lose your license that should be it, no getting it back in a years time
+ If you kill someone same thing - No license
Driving without a license = go to Jail

I think making driving a privalage not a right, would be a great idea. Cupoftea you are on to something.
Also Speed LIMIT not Speed TARGET0 -
But being allowed to drive isn't a right.0

I reckon that they should ban drivers over 65 or do a re-test every two years and yes ban them if they dont pass for at least 2 years, and not allow kids to drive at 17!! hike the age upto 20!! then watch half the accident rates fall for both age groups.
if we did what the chinese do-cycle everyway no problems!!

All drivers regardless of age are potentially dangerous. Compulsory retesting for all drivers is a good idea. Also if they loose their licence the car they were driving at the time should be scrapped, that would make them thing twice...

as someone said, if you loose your licence you shouldnt get it back,
you should perhaps be allowed to do a driving test to get a licence (standard new driver test)
putting the driving age up is unfair, when i was 17 the only way of me getting to and from my part time job was to borrow my dads car
the only way to get to scouts, borrow the car
to get to church, borrow the car
my parents would have got fed up of driving me places and made me choose a few out of the multiple sports / societies i went to (prety much something every night)
scrapping the car is a bit wastefull, it'd be more comical for someone with a BMW M3 (for example) to suddenly become a learner driver, pass thier test, go for insurance as a new driver (they loose thier NCB by loosing the licenece) and have to say they had lost thier licence
they proberbly then cant afford the insurance for the car and have to sell it, then looking daft turning up at work or wherever in a citroen saxo or something simple due to the insurance cost.0 -

Life ban for any offence? Interesting! Are you the same person you were ten years ago?
Couldn't cope with life without your own car at seventeen years old?
Tosser, what was wrong with cycling?

What about all the "youngsters" that don't have licences and any insurance in the first place?0

You did well not to get mad, she appeared to offer a genuine apology, so we hope she has learned from the experience. I think a lot of drivers of all ages are genuinely unaware of just how much space a cyclist needs, and the vague explanation in the Highway Code does little to inform them.0
