Hi
Just went to the kitchen, turned on the lights, flash and the downstairs lights have gone-off. Damn, gets torch, into garage, flick breaker back for the downstairs lighting circuit...only the hall, cloakroom and outside light come back-on...Kitchen, Garage, Dining-room, Lounge, no lights back. That's an awful lot of bulbs not functioning.
Weird, all circuit breakers are made?
What's happening?
Any pointers to figuring it out?

Cheers in advance

So you've got safety switches whreby you push them up or down to turn em back on [?] - if so usually some are lying around in the electrical box.

This situation is like the spare fuse scenario...[?]

Though you could see if the place is safe then leave it to the morning, if thats ok ? - then get down the local electrical shop or ring an electrician etc...[?]

If all the rooms you have described are part of a single lighting circuit and you have reset your circuit breaker. A failure of part of that circuit could be caused by a loose joint, in a joint box (commonly used with recessed halogen lighting) or ceiling rose. What an electrician would do to find the fault, would trace the line of the circuit, then subdivide it and test to find the position of the fault.

I had a similar problem with some recessed lighting and found the fault to be with a bad connection. Unless you are competent with electrics, it would be better to get an electrician to help you.
