RIBBLE

I am looking for a new road bike. Budget max œ1400. I am now more a leisure cyclist these days, but I still want a nice bike for the occasional time trial or audax as well as a fast couple of hours ride.
The Ribble bikes do appear very good value for money. Has any one got any comments on Ribble or any suggestions? I have read the comments on here about the Focus range!
Thanks in anticipation.
PS This is my first post, not bad for a 40 something!!!???

Got the Ribble Audax/winter trainer (580 squid). Lorra bike for the money. Service/delivery/build were all fine. Good hunting!

I've got the winter/audax bike that I use as my commuter and also on club runs, and I was so impressed with that, that I bought the race frame and made it up with the components from my original bike. I now have 2 bikes I'm very happy with! (I must also mention that I have always had good service from Ribble for parts etc as well.)
Good luck hunting![:)]

I don't own a ribble (yet) but I know half a dozen or so people that do and they are all extremely pleased with their steeds and they all have specs well above similar priced machines from other manufacturers, the full Ultegra Nero Corsa they were doing as a spec. edition bike for œ1100 is available with a Kona badge for over œ2k.0

How about this from Probikekit?
Full carbon with Dura Ace. Fantastic value for under œ1500. I know a couple of people who have them, and they are delighted.

it's nice that pro-bikekit frame actually - wonder who make it for them?
The ribble bikes are nice. I live local(ish) to the shop and have seen a few built up - they are a nice bit of kit for the money. imo - they could do to make a frame in the range with a slightly taller head tube - a sportive model - I guess you could call it. All of their frames are very race oriented and I think they are missing out a little by not having a choice.0 -
Good value but not a *good* bike really - you get what you pay for I'm afraid.
I have the 'winter/audax' bike. It will only take tyres of 23mm with mudguards, which to me is NOT really a winter/audax bike. It is light and responsive but a harsh ride - it isn't comfortable enough for anything over a 200, so why it is called an 'audax' bike I don't know. I use mine for winter 200s even though I am not that happy about using 23mm tyres on wet/muddy/icy roads. I also use it to commute and it is fine for that. Terrible service when buying on line though, so I'd reccommend you actually go into the shop instead.0 -
i used to love the all black ribble bikes, now i want a bianchi...

Also in the picture the wheels have ksyrium ES's- a œ500 wheelset.
If you look at the text the bike actually comes with Mavic Aksiums- a œ120 wheelset. So although it looks a very good deal it's not much better than the Focus Cayo expert which is cheaper.
In fact the Focus Cayo expert has a better wheelset in the shape of Easton Vistas and weighs approx. 8kg. Thats pretty good and you could use the œ100 you save to get some nice 2007 model dura ace pedals.

Got to say, if I had that sort of money available, I wouldn't buy a Ribble, even though I'm happy with the Ribble bikes I currently own; yes, the frames are built to a price, but for the VFM, they can't be beaten. But once you get to respectable amounts of cash, I'd be going for something better.

At the end of the day ( cliche [:(] ) you can't beat going to a decent lbs who will measure and advise you regarding the bike you need at whatever 'price point'.

Thank you all who replied to date, food for thought.
The budget is my top end and I suppose œ1100 is more my mark.
The œ1400 came from looking at Specialized off the peg Roubaix. I have been quoted œ1350 for the Comp and œ1169 for the Elite.
I have also been quoted at a local shop for a (06/07) Giant SCR 1 at œ650 and a SCR C4 at œ900.
Any comments on these or other bikes would be welcome.
On the subject of ProRace I am aware of a bike shop in Kendal called Brucies Bike Shop which although they dont admit I think they are linked to the ProRace web site. They used to sell ProRace frames but are now changing to PBK. See cycling plus next month as where I understand there is to be a review of the frames. I think they are made in Belgium??!! Perhaps somone my say differently.0 -
I personally wouldn't spend 1400 quid on a ribble I have to say, as there are better bikes around for that kind of money. Planet X for one.
SIZE IS EVERYTHING! or at least that's what my LBS tells me.0 -
