Well, I'll say it: of the 11 on the BBC page, the only ones that are any good at all are both #1's and both #8's. And..

    - If p1#1 had been chosen you'd be whinging that it was too plain, or that it had three different typefaces in it.
    - If p1#8 had been chosen you'd be whinging that the '1' was upside down or you couldn't tell it was made up of '2012'.
    - If p2#1 had been chosen you'd be whinging that you couldn't tell the '2's were also 'L's.
    - If p2#8 had been chosen you'd be whinging that the Gherkin looked like a beehive hairdo or that the buildings looked like a set of ribbed condoms or something.

Frankly, the œ400k logo is the perfect logo for the Games. Gives all you English (British?) people a chance to engage in the real national sport: moaning and whinging at the bargain price of œ400,000/55million = 0.7p a head. Enjoy!

I think the one on p1 of BBC site is pretty good - simple but effective.

The chosen logo is just naff, and I can't see why anyone thought...yeah this is the one...

London council tax well spent so far..? [:p]

    Hi,

Whenever I think about the 2012 Olympics I remember the time that my mum and dad organised my 16th birthday party, complete with the obligatory cringe inducing home-made flyers. So embarrassing!! Turned out okay in the end though.

Jeez! You having a bad day? I don't quite get what your p1#1 stuff means, but I like number one very much. As for whinging, I just find it vaguely embarrassing that the official one is apparently the best they can come up with, and most people can't see it says 2012 until they're told, and it looks rubbish and untidy...

And I resent someone getting paid œ400,000 to design something I, or most 10 year olds could have done better after a day or so's thought, even if it apparently only costs me 0.7p. All those 0.7ps add up to money that could be better spent...

Yeah I am, but that's not affecting my posting--I'm just being deliberately provocative. [;)]

The comments in this thread roughly equate to the comments that get made when a museum spends a boatload of cash purchasing a work of art, particularly abstract art.
Note that I'm not saying this logo is a great work of art!
We then get treated to the same tired 'I could have done that'/'I could have done better' comments. My response to this kind of comment: What's stopping you? Go on, if you could have done better, hang out your shingle as a graphic designer. That's usually when the excuses start to come out..

How can Seb Coe say things like "This is the vision at the very heart of our brand," without blushing?

The logo is bollocks, and I'm generally positive about the 'lympics.

Disclosure: My favourite bid logo is the failed Quebec 2002 one.

It cost 400,000 quid because they chose Wolff Ollins to do it that was why.

As a designer myself, I can appreciate that it took a year to complete what with so much input but I can honestly say the end result is somewhat disappointing. Certainly not the type of thing I was hoping for anyway.

    ...took a year to complete...WTF???!!!

And as for the logo being paid for from private sector, like all advertising and marketing the public and consumer has to pay for it in the end.

œ400,000 for a years work from a top brand company and total worldwide rights... sounds very reasonable to me, they got themselves a bargain!

It is not the new logo at all it is a copy of the government's master plan, vague, always changing, and signifying nothing. What a load of tosh, it seems complete lunacy to have the Olympics here given how we have stirred up the mad mullahs world wide, what a target. Even more worrying on a personal note, my poor son will be in the police front line for this event, I will certainly be glad when it is all over. Hopefully without any nasty incidents.

As for the Logo Wolf Olins seem to have gone down hill on this one, perhaps the fee was beneath contempt, so the tea lady got the commission, come to think of it the logo is tea leaf shaped, must be how it came about, what a to do!

it reminds me of the graphics that used to appear in low budget videos during the 1980's.

They said on the radio this morning that it's been pulled from the website because it 'may cause epileptic fits'

    Not because it's pants then.

  • Apart from the crap, sorry, 'edgy' animated graphics where is the capital 'L' of 'london'. Why not go the whole hog and write 'lundin' (pronounced in yer best Frank Butcher cockney accent). Apparently this logo is aimed at the young; well, from where I'm standing (as a forty seven year old), what about the old (and older) bastards like me who are in the majority and have actually paid for this waste of space via our taxes.

But you gotta love the person who mugged them off for œ400k for it, s/he gets my respect for pulling it off.[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

I've been undecided on this one, but now that foghat's declared I can safely say that I think it's great.
    Logo ne plus ultra.

Never mind, duff, I'm sure the day centre will have you back if you explain nicely.

    Almost 50,000 signatures speaks volumes.

Seems a bit of a strange action to take at this point...slightly suspicious you might say.
