Went through the lights, got stopped by the law...

He said something like "Don't you watch for traffic signals?"
I said something like "Yes, the lights are green."
Now it turns out that I should have stopped because himself, a uniformed cop, was signalling me to do so. Trouble was, he didn't look like a uniformed cop, he looked like a security guard. Is that their new uniform? What's the point of a police uniform that doesn't identify it's wearer as a policeman? Also the signal he was giving was hardly noticable, his hands were below waist-level. What happened to this?

I did not tell him he looked like a security guard and not a cop; and I didn't tell him to use the signals in the HC rather than something that Barbara Woodhouse would use to get a dog to sit....
I kind of wish that I had.

They are funny. When I was trying to get past the cops during the London riots a few years back they thought I was part of it because I was a cyclist.[:(!]

You don't need to stop because even if he had a valid police uniform and did the correct signal, he could quite easily have been a mugger in police uniform trying to nick your bike. A valid warrant card is the only method of identification of a police officer.

Was he even a proper plicebod anyway, or was he one of those plastic plicebods aka's CSO's? They usually put them on traffic duties, so that they can hold up traffic when the lights fail, more than it would be if they just left the motons to it.

A real cop, just didn't look like one.
Ironically, the community sport ocifers do look quite a lot like real cops. Plus they usually wear high-viz.

That's because some of them sooooooo desperately want to be a real cop.

Part of the junction was blocked by a very, very long vehicle trying to turn. It wasn't the part that I was going through but the police were holding everyone up anyway. Dunno why it was supposed to help, the lorry didn't move for all the time I was kept waiting.

What is the new police uniform then ?

    <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">
No helmet or cap, no jacket, no armband; stab-proof vest but nothing else that really indicated that he was a uniformed policeman on traffic duty.

    No hat?

incomplete uniform, and you are not required to recognise his authority as a policeman unless he produces his identification.

anyone standing in the middle of a junction in hi viz is going to be a copper surely?

even if it's a member of the public trying to stop traffic, you still pay attention surely?

It's the only way in. The Met, City of London and British Transport Police aren't taking applications. You can only, I can't remember the wording, but something like "show interest". I've been waiting for about 3 years! Now I'm just waiting for the Beeb to make me redundant and my PCSO application will finally be sent off.

He wasn't wearing Hi viz or anything else to indicate either that he was a cop or that he was directing traffic.

No hi-vis on traffic duties. Was he genuine? He shouldn't have been directing traffic.
Next time ask to see his warrant card & ask for the name of his duty inspector.

i know this is an old thread and that, but i was just wondering how many of you actually do go through red lights. i usually do, but only the ones i know the phasing of.

got stopped by a CSO the other day and he was on a bike. he tried to fine me and i was off, he didn't even bother following.

they are so fat and slow. its kinda embarassing. these people are roughly supposed to be supporting the community and they don't do anything i have ever seen.
