I'm planning a route for lejog later this year, was wondering if there is a cycle lane/access over the M48 or M4 bridges?

Cheers

Cycle lane over the old bridge (M48). Normally it's the track on the eastbound side but if closed for repairs okay to use the track on the other side.

    Used it only yesterday.

Lovely views out over the esturary, crossed it last year, had to carry me bike up and down steps to get over the foot bridge as I'd gone to the wrong side, hell of a job with fully loaded panniers!

I had the same worries when I made my first attempt. Luckily the chap who was helping metoute plan told me about the cycle path otherwise it would have been a detour upstream to make the crossing.

One of the paths goes directly over the toll booths and it was astisfying to see folk paying while making my free crossing.

It's a cracking view from the bridge. Savour the crossing. I've been lucky enough to have fine weather forall three crossing that I've made.

If you are going up the Wye Valley, you'll enjoy that too. It's breathtakingly beautiful nad Tintern Abbey is awesome. Just further along is Tintern Station with a cafe and mouthwatering cakes......

There's a couple of decent camp sites in the town centre at Monmouth along with a great deli mmm.....almost talking myself into going there again [:D]

Have heard from others that they find it hard to locate the cycle route but I find if you head to the services on the English side then you can trace it back to the bridge quite well from there. Beware of mopeds whizzing past you though on the bridge - not sure if they are allowed but they use it and gave me a big fright the other day on my LEJOG crossing of the Severn! And also beware that the bridge moves more than you think under your feet if you stop to take a pic etc!!

I really can't understand the difficulties in finding the cycle route. It is well signposted. I don't think mopeds are allowed it is a cycle route and footway though there is no alternative route for prohibited vehicles....
