Moving forward on the saddle
HI,
I have been commuting for a couple of weeks, this is the third week. It is only 3 miles each way. Downhill to work and uphill on the way home. I have noticed on the last 3/4 rides I have been getting slower and moving forwasrd on thr saddle. As far as I can tell my position on the bike is pretty good. So was wondering why I was moving forward. Is there a weakness somewhere? I haven't been doing any other exercise other than cycling. Do I need to work my core?
cheers,
Rich (A commuter at last)

Check that the saddle is flat and that you aren't pulling on the bars. Your grip on the bars should be loose and relaxed with minimal tension through your shoulders and back.
It's possible that core lack of endurance could contribute, but that will build naturally as you cycle more.

Is it possible that you are using too biger gear? Applying more force to the pedal can somtimes mean moving forward on the seat.

I hadn't noticed I was using a higher gear.
I have adjusted my sadle slightly over lunch and will see how it goes on the way home...

lots of riders move forward on their sadle when trying hard hence the phrase on the rifit going back to the days of leather sadles which had a rifit at the front of the sadle.0

I agree with the previous advice. To sum up, if you're sliding forward without meaning to, check your saddle isn't tilted forward too much. If you just re-position yourself slightly to get more force on the pedals, I don't see anything wrong with that. The alternative is to drop a gear or two, and sit back again.0
