So you think Essex is flat? Sportive.
Yes! Flat as a pancake! I think I only recall one hill of any note (just before the 2nd food stop) and it was otherwise very nice and rolling.
So maybe as an advert for Essex as a climber's mecca it didn't quite hit the mark, but you can only work with what you've got and the course, the organisation and food stops were all excellent. Thank you very much to kilo to go for doing such a great event.

Seconded- very enjoyable day out. Lets face it, it was never gonna be that hilly but since I'm useless at climbing it suited me just fine!

I enjoyed the first half, was ok going up the hill to the second feed stop. Then it all went wrong, I got sever stomach camps and puked, even had trouble keeping down water after that. From that point on I felt like quitting but I managed to complete, with the help of Simon, who stuck with me for the second half.0

managed a 6hr 5min for the 107miles - having Danbury hill right in the middle was better than getting it at the end of the ride. [:D]
had a wobbly legs moment at around 70mile point, but seemed to get back in the groove after 10-15mins easy spinning
felt sorry for the guy who was already off and pushing up the first hill at epping forest [:0]0 -
Yes, I think Essex is flat. Lovely ride though.0

The first bit of a hill up to High Beech, I saw two blokes walking up!
I rode it with 5 of my clubmates and was getting a bit fed up with the constant stopping. We managed to spend 45 minutes at the various feed stops, normally I'd stop once for a couple of minutes to fill bottles. With buggering around at the start we didn't get away until 10.45 either, I usually try to get to the start line very early to be in the first group off.
6 blokes in club colours seems to be a bit of a magnet for people looking for a tow. We had no end of lazy gits who wanted the bunch but wouldn't do any work.0 -
I had a great old time except (isn't there always) my front deraileur cable popped out just after the first food stop. I spent 20 minutes at the side of the road getting it back working again - took longer than it should because I dropped the nut in the grass............. you wouldn't believe the way a nut can hide when you watched it drop.
I then road most of the rest of the way on the big ring because changing was such a pain. % minutes at home on the work stand and it was sorted.
My only advice for improvement would be some sorted of work stand and track pump at the feed stations.

I really enjoyed it, Having completed a very hilly [and wet] Dartmoor Classic three weeks ago I agree the title was a trifle misleading, [although Dartmoor didn't seem quite so steep thirty years ago!] Well done to Kilo we even got sunshine!rsmart0

Fantastic ride I thought. Really enjoyed it, well organised, well sign posted, will definitely do more of the Kilotogo rides this year. Must admit did I find it some of it very hard going, thought as though the road was made of putty and my brake blocks were rubbing, but then again I did spend a vast majority of the ride at the front.
Well done to the folks at Kilotogo.0
