having washed my bike yesterday and applying some 3 in 1 oil to the chain and rear mech etc i noticed a patch of oil left on my nice (newish) patio today and my wife was none too pleased. Any idea how i remove the oil??

Pressure washer removes all stains from my patio. Even removes the cement between the slabs.

there are much better chain lubes than 3 in 1 for a bike, and are much easier to apply without drbbling all over the place.

Another vote for Finish Line Teflon here.
I also oil the chain with the bike upside-down, and oil each link as it emerges from the jockey-wheel. This keeps the drips on the jockey-wheel, cycling round an on to the next link - Besides, it seems to get the oil in better.
Biological washing powder liberally sprinkled on the offending spot, followed by a stiff yard brush scrub with a bucket of hot water does the trick - problem is you can often be left with a cleaner-patch!0 -
You can buy stuff for removing car oil from driveways. I have used it and it is much more effective than fairy liquid.
Try B&Q or your local hardware shop.

"flowers help!" in a nice ornamental pot big enough to cover the offending stain?

Fullars earth alias minaral cat litter is good at absorbing stains. Scatter it on and brush it off.0

I hope the pressure washer isn't used on the bike?
