Absolutely. The force of you going from 30mph (or even 44mph!) to 0 in a fraction of a second will certainly be enough to get your pedals to release.
<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">will my pedals/cleats be damaged need replacing?<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">Probably not, certainly not the cleats, and if the pedals spin OK and clip in and out OK, they should be all right.

I think you need to have confidence in whats underneath you and if that goes, then you'll be forever nervous on that bike. Also, as someone else has already stated, a small missed crack/dent/ could potentially appear at a later date - at your expense! I see no problems in wanting to be put back into the position you were in before - riding with confidence on a phyically sound bike.
Personally, I would want to change the frame + forks + handlebars as a minimum. I can be a bit over tentative in these matters but safety is the name of the game and you want to reduce the risk of going downhill at 30mph and a handlebar giving out for the sake of 50 quid.
Good recovery though. I had an accident about 7 months ago and although I am physically over it, I find myself being very cautious on the road particularly at junctions and side streets!
This is my bike:

Magnatom - i abused it from the minute i got home from the hospital! had female friends (hopefully admirers) queuing up to come care for me!

just had an update from my solicitor (4 months down the line...) the police have found me responsible for the accident but there is no official documentation to this note so the other party can't use it against me. I dont know what to do, obviously its a no win no fee but im worried now that im going to get sued.
surely the solicitor would of just stopped the case if this was the issue?BMC TM01 - FCN 0

From the description I think it is crazy to find it is your fault - I would presume the motorist is responsible for ensuring his manoeuvre across a cycle lane is safe!0
-
Hang on, cycle lane, he turned right over the path of oncoming traffic..... see the highway code I'd say - just cos someone let's you through doesn't mean it's safe to make the move ... no remind your solicitor..
Had it been a bus in a bus lane, or cycle in a shared cycle/bus lane............ or get a better solicitor..it's a no brainer...
Turning right over the opposite lane has to be a safe turn..... - OK speed might be a fact, but you weren't exceeding the speed limit..... this cycling furiously really irritates me...... cos I can knock up 30 plus mph on the mtb easy.... on road.....I'll just have to get fat again then !0 -
best for a quick recovery - that knee is... well, it ain't good.0

The police don't always get it right. The solicitor is likely to be aware of or research the actual laws. The police are sloppy as anything.
I'd talk to a new solicitor (not some cheap no win no fee one), find an offense and sue quickly. It's easier if you get in first as the motorist is likely to be bowled over by it.
It's obviously their fault if they pulled out on you - it'd be their fault if it was a motor vehicle accident.0 -

fossyant - i went through a company that specialises in cycling claims and this is who they refer to so i must assume that hes happy to carry on or something. Its no win no fee so he must see something in it
john - my knee is fine now, just got a mahooosive scar! Commuting every day out for lengthy cycles on a sunday now (did my first 50 a couple of weeks ago!)
Chris - i just so happen to work for a firm of solicitors, the partner in my branch was out today so i didnt know which one to speak to. We have 13 offices! So i shall speak to him tomorrow and find out who is best to speak to for some adviceBMC TM01 - FCN 0

Nice one mate...good to hear you are in one piece (mostly )
There is a bus lane I go down each day and the very same thing has nearly happened to me a couple of times...enough times to creep past the junction now...
The problem is people think..."ohh there isn't a bus coming" and then just drive through the traffice and across the lane without thinking or looking. They always get a nice surprise when I scream at them when I am sitting a foot away from their passenger window though :P0
