Stage 20 *spoiler*

Am I alone in finding today's stage result a bit suspect? Neither Salvodelli or Mazzoleni have shown any real aptitude in time trials of that distance before and yet today they trounce all comers.

nope no suspicion here, the real big guns arent really around andd Mazzoleni is built more like a time trialer than a mountain goat.

    I thought fair enough result.

I had stage 20 down as a Savo victory before the Giro started but changed my mind a few days ago and went for Dave Z for PTP choice. I'm not really surprised with the result, although Mazzoleni's performance during the Giro does press a few doubt buttons.
  • Hmmmm. I disagree with you a bit about Savo (taking my life in my hands and picking a fight) but I think he has shown aptitude at this kind of TT.

He can turn in a good ride AND the conditions were a bit rubbish so his bike handling probably came into play a bit.

    But it is Astana....

What amazes me is Schleck is doing this on bread and water (in theory) - Is he the new Eddy Merckx?

I'd say Savo was believable (hence my PTP pick) but Mazzoleni....hmmm

Did you get planning permission for that sense of humour bypass?

I should add I kept him as stage 20 winner in my Giro Fantasy Team so I'll pick up double points [:)] - a final desperate charge which may put me into top 20, unless all those ahead of me also had him down for the stage win.

We already knew Mazzoleni was a doper, so of course he is doping now as well. The same with Di Luca.

Savoldelli is a client of Ferrari and his two best friends (in cycling) are the dopers Mazzoleni and Ivan Gotti.

This site could get shut down over comments like that, unless you are being tongue in cheek, but going by previous posts I think you're not. I'm not going to say you are wrong, simply because we don't know either way. And till someone comes up with evidence that someone is on stuff when they do a ride, i.e. positive test, none of us can really say, can we? Unless you have some insider info you want to share...

There are phone taps of Di Luca and Mazzoleni discussing doping with the dope-doctor Ali the Chemist. So we do know they are dopers. Mazzoleni is also involved in drug trafficking together with Basso's sister.

A good ride by Savoldeli and it didn't suprise me as he's had other good TT's in the past.

  • Having read of the wiretap on Mazzoleni's phone calls discussing EPO with a Dr, as well as the Basso link, I have no real enthusiasm about this guy's podium placing and in my mind, Cunego is 3rd overall as Mazzoleni, it could be argued strongly, should not be in the Giro 07.

he's right. Just search 'Ali the chemist di luca' on google.

Sorry, I'm not siding with him. Just stating that what he says is true.
