Been riding 250km a week april and may geting ready for the above feeling good but been hit by a vicious stomach bug in the last few days[xx(]Due to do a hard ride in the moutains with my french club today [:0] [:0](no cake stops) any advice how i should prepare for the ariegoise now

  • Missing one training ride should have little or no effect on your participation. Make sure you recover, stay off the bike until you do and then gradually start training again.

    The 250km a week you have been doing since April are all in the bank and it'd take a while, i.e. a minimum of a couple of months, for you to lose this fitness.

    So recover, and I must stress that it's important to do this, then pick up your training again.

  • whilst there is a degree of truth to the fact that the kms are in the bank from your training over the course of a couple of months, i think it's a bit optimistic to say that it takes a couple of months to lose it. it's a lot easier to lose fitness than to gain or regain it. you should have no problems if you only miss a couple of days or even as much as a week, but too much after that, you know a fortnight or 15 - 20 days, and you'll nearly be starting from scratch.
