One sponsor gone from CSC

I guess them being German makes them more sensitive.

And the word is the UCI are considering an amnesty. Because that will solve things.

The Germans seem to be not sure what to do at the minute - on the one hand we have german TV wanting to drop the Tour TV coverage, and now this sponsor going, and on the other Forster stating it's only German teams who are taking any action against doping, and teams making public statements about the lengths they are going to.

The UCI, as per usual, has even less of a clue about it all.

Sponsors only put money into cyling (or any other sport) if they think that they will gain good publicity from it. MAN have obviously decided that the only good publicity they can gain from cycling is to distance themselves from it.

One of the many joys of following cycling in today's overcommercialised sporting world, I find, is that - as regards team sponsors especially - I have no idea who half these people are. I presume they are all trying to get me to spend cash on something, but since I have no idea what, there is little chance of me doing so. In some obscure sense, this feels like a little victory.

What!? You mean Ale-Jet's victories have not resulted in you rushing out to buy some German milk?! I am stunned [;)][:D]

I suspect it was probably the Burmeister & Wain (Danish) part of the group that was behind the sponsorship rather than M.A.N. itself.

But whatever, if Pro Cycling wants to keep going, it is going to have to clean up other wise you wont pull in the sponsors, but then again if you are not winning then the sponsors will probably drop you as well, so the temptation to 'cut corners'.

  • I take it sponsors are going to be pulling out of all professional sport then ? Is there a professional sport in the world were drug use is not rife ? I know for a fact in happens in Rugby but the testing regime is not comparable to cycling .

ah, but sponsors for football, rugby, cricket etc are just seen as people who pay to put names on a shirt. Arsenel is known as Arsenel, not O2. If a footballer fails a drug test, it would be seen as the club's problem, not the sponsor's.

Although it is the DS that runs the cycling team, the sponsors do appear to be more closely involved than is the case in other professional sports.

So true, most often wonder too - the only thing I find alluring is either the name and or team colours !
