CW described it as 40% in their steep hill special issue in 2005. Looks worth a pilgrimage.
This is a better URL: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/105618

Its very short...from bottom to top its around 300meters...averaging 20%....steepest section supposedly the switchback...Rosedale Chimneys steepest section is 300meters at 32.4% average! and thats not including the 15-20% before and after....
You can see the decent at harlech...

Guys. To stop the edge of the link extending off the screen you could shorten it like this.
Vermooten's Link
Click on the reply with quote thing to see how I did that.

website maths is wrong!! 1:1 is only 45 degrees so how can 1:2.5 be 40 degrees. I:2.5 is 22% check with trigonometry!! Steep anyway.
Check out the hill in my pics, thats also steep, pic does not do it justice.
I Just did 123 mile cymru gran fondo and there was no hill came near to making me feel like getting off, this one always does!!

Are you saying you went up a oneway street?[:D]
Looks bad to me, but not much worse than around the Strines here in Yorkshire. (England)0 -
[:D] Thats weird, the post missed half my message.
I had typed that the hill in my pics below was the one that makes me feel like getting off, not the one in the link [:D]
Its is strange, I have also done rplies that have not been posted, think my laptop is posessed!!!

No Ceedee...the Bwlch Y groes from Dina Mawwdwy is more than twice the climb of any peak district climb...it climbs 375meters in 3kms...1st km is 8% avg...the next 2 km's average 15%...this along with Hardknott pass and Wrynose Pass and Bealach Na Ba vie for most difficult climb in the UK..photo wont do this any justice...I'm coming all the way down from Scotland to do the Wild Wales Challenge as this infamous climb is at the end....0 -
Look in my pics, you will see bwlch y groes climb from both sides. I did them last sat befoe the gran fondo.
Still do not think it is as hard as the other climb in my pic, only 2 miles but shear hell at the top [:D]

This climb and Hirnant a few miles later will not be nice after 70 miles riding [:D]
I got lovely pic of the lake just before the last climb, on the sat before the rain started, could not see the lake sunday [:D]

I think that horrible Harlech road was in the Wild Wales Challenge ride one year.

If you move it to N. Yorks I'll ride it, Looks as if the road surface would be more of a problem than the hill itself,

Was toalking to someone the other night who went for a training weekend in north Wales and said they had ridden (the whole way) up the highest driveable mountain in Wales. It was their third attempt at it and was very pleased to have cracked it!
His other half drove up to see how bad it was and said it was difficult enough driving up let alone riding up!
Was trying to find out where it was out of curiosity. Is there a chance it could've been Bwlch-y-Groes? if not which do you think?0
