if any of you commute home westbound on the highway and are known to speed !! dont go above 30 mph on your bikes otherwise you'll be nicked just like me,just received in the post "A NOTICE OF PROSECUTION" for doing 36 mph in a 30 mph restricted zone on sunday 20 may at 08.33 hrs

please dont give me "told you so" "teach you a lesson" blah blah blah as i had my parents around here this morning when my post arrived and i had all that from them[:(!][:o)]

"Speeding is dealt with under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984; section 81, which refers to exceeding 30mph on a restricted road. This specifies, "drive a motor vehicle" and the act goes on to define 'motor vehicle' as a mechanically propelled vehicle. Mechanically propelled means with an engine therefore pedal cycles do not come into this category. Therefore, there is no specific offence of speeding in relation to pedal cycles."

You might have got that speeding fine driving your taxi mate, but you definitely didn't get it riding your bike.

Yes, it did make me curious how they could send a notice of prosecution to you by post if you were on your bicycle. I'm assuming you weren't stopped at the time (otherwise you would have said so) in which case, how did they get your address? I presumed you were talking about a motorbike.

sorry guys, should of re-worded it because normally going along that road in my taxi you cant get above 5mph whereas you guys bomb along on 2 wheels......upto/over 30mph[:)]

apart from last sunday week ago when there was no traffic at 8.30am and i had just dropped off a fare !!!!

In that case, a round of applause from me to whoever sent you the FPN. Cabbies are the worst drivers on the roads in London. I do wonder whether you have to have a personality and driving skills bypass to be a black cabbie?

    dangerous jules.
you just have to accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue!

  • So, you got done for speeding in your taxi. You can expect little sympathy from us. Speeding motorists present an increased danger to other road users.

certainly didnt ask for any sympathy,
but admit it if you or anyone else is driving, regardless of what vehicle it is,how easy it is to speed when there is no traffic especially early morning
