10 front mech, 8 speed chain

Got sold a 10 speed 105 front mech by LBS for my 8 speed bike. I asked if it would be OK with 8/9 speed - I assumed correctly that the cage would be narrower - and they said it'd be fine. Are they right?

    You will probably find that the chain rubs on the mech a lot and requires a lot of 'trimming' of the front mech while riding. Can Shimano shifters do this?, i only have Campag so wouldn't know.

    You may not have noticed with a 9sp mech as it is only a little narrower. But a 10sp mech is narrower again so you are almost certain to have a bit of trouble.
