Campag Cassette
Is the largest sprocket available with a Campagnolo 9 speed cassette a 29? Anyone know where they can be bought. Ideally I want a 13-29. Presume my short cage rear mech will still cope as long as I don't use large/large. Is it possible to buy a few links for a chain to increase the length.

I believe it is 29. Comobike stock them and are cheaper than UK retailers. I asked a similar questio recently though and I think you may struggle with a 13-29 on a short cage.

My short cage Veloce 9 changes my 13-29 fine
Great for hills; feels awfully low geared compared to a standard cassette tho for flat riding - very few gears at the top end.
Bought mine at Parker I think but that was 2 years ago.

13-29 is a 10-speed cassette.
For 9-speed, from Campagnolo, there are 13-28 and a 14-28 cassettes. I recommend the 14-28 if minimising jumps between gears is more important to you than the size of your top gear. You can always freewheel down the steep hills.
Marchisio make sprockets up to 30 teeth that can be used with any speed. See www.anysystem.de
There is another manufacturer who makes Campag compatible sprockets up to 32 teeth. Sorry I can't remember who that is now. You'd have trouble with the mech anyway.

Thanks for the advice. I've gone for the 14-28 with my existing front of 53/39 in anticipation of some moderately hilly rides. If that doesn't work I'll be going compact as well.0

The other manufacturer is Miche. They make loose cog cassettes which can be bought with specified ratios, or individually, so you can make a custom cogset. I'm thinking of making a custom cogset for some hillclimbs next year0

The wide-range Campag cassette Pete Biggs has in mind is I think produced by IRD in US:

I went down the Marchisio route (12-30) recently and I'm pleased with the results. The IRD solution would have taken a couple of weeks to arrive and meant ditching a brand new rear mech, but it was tempting. Quality looks good. I had to file the Marchisio cogs a little to fit them on a brand new Campag freewheel.
