Has anyone any experience of this type of bike? I am researching prior to the purchase of a touring bike as I find my Specialised Hardrock rather ponderous, so I am thinking about giving it to my daughter. My reasons for wondering about a Dutch bike is that I am vertically challenged (5'4'') with long body and short legs. I also have regular lower back problems and wonder if the position of a more traditional bike might help. Most touring bikes seem to be male orientated, even the Dawes Horizon frame begins at 18'' which I assume is on the large side. Any helpful advice would be much appreciated.

There is a company called Islabikes which makes bikes specifically sized for children.

They are however also ideal for adapting for smaller riders - give them a ring to have a chat.

Dutch bikes are extremely solid, heavy and tend to have three speed or similar gears. THey are comfortable, and the dutch do tour on them, but I am not sure I would not want to do so.
