Hi All,

I am not fast but fancied doing one of these events - has anybody any information, advice or links etc.

I need something to get me pointed in the right direction.

Many thanks in advance.

Tom

there is only one 24 hour tt. it's promoted by mersey roads on the 21/7. see the ctt website for details. http://www.ctt.org.uk/ , select events/distance /24 hour.
there are other 24 hour rides but they're not tt's.

i've done several 24 hours rides but they're ctc standard rides - about as far removed from a tt as you can get!
it's a pity rod goodfellow isn't reading this thread, he's the man to see.

    Hi Pied,

I have discovered a few ultra marathon cycling events that I am going to look into. I did the Vatternrundan Last year and am hoping to do it again this year.

Radmarathon looks good as well - maybe for 2008

The 600km round lake constance looks interesting!

  • I rode the Mersey event in 2002. I think that the main thing is the ability to sit on the bike for long periods. If you are comfortable then you will do a good ride. No point in being aero if you are not comfortable for long periods.
I did a few 10 hour rides on my own before the event. It is importatnt to ride on your own to get used the fact that you will be riding on your own for 24 hours. I found the Mersey event to be a well organised and friendly event; and an experience that I will never forget and still cherish. If you can get someone to be your back-up team then all the better so that you can concentrate in just riding your bike. Although is is possible to ride the Mersey event without back-up, as their is a cafe on the main circuit and you can stash food and drinks at various points.

    Hi Andy,

It sounds like you hada good time: any more details would be of help. What distance did you finally make and did you have any breaks etc. The circuit sounds complicated with various changes and sub routes etc. How did you find this?

    Thanks - Kevin
