Something that's been tickling my brain 'cos I've never seen one going uphill - Can they or can't they and do you end up with a beetroot coloured head?

If only the legs were as good as the bike....

    Your tagline says it all!

Most recumbents are as good as the rider!

If the rider does hills, then so will the recumbent, just low gear and twiddle.

Recumbent trikes are in fact superior as you can go as slow as you like and not worry about balance.

I recall being called out to search for a recumbent rider
who went missing during the terrible May bank holiday weather .
With severe conditions of howling winds
constant driving rain and low cloud .
After 20 hours of searching low and high .
We found him on the ridge of Ely Catherdal !
Which proves recumbents do go up hills
even if you get lost in the mists of time .</font id="size2">

  • Yeh they go uphill alright, like conventional bikes, it depends on how fit the rider is and how much the machine weighs. I reckon I would even be in with a shout at my local hill climb on my windcheetah.

I went up Corndean Lane out of Winchcombe to Humblebee on my M5 2020 and over took two Pinarellos on the way.

...but I think it'd be fair to say that the average 'bent goes up hills a little more slowly than the average upright bike?

Coming down the other side, though, the average 'bent will overtake the upright every time, and stay well ahead on the flat.
