Hello
I hope i have posted this in the right area
I have recently started commuting to work on my bike which is 16 miles in total, now at the moment i am riding my mountain bike there which i am enjoying. In my shed i have a Raleigh Max Ogre think its 1997 area which can been seen at the link below http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c170/f1fan111/RalMax.jpg
Would this bike be good frame to convert to a commuter? I have been reading up and people mention weight now its quite a heavy frame so would this be a problem?
The next thing is the drive train is worn out so it needs replacing now its a 21 speed so what would be a good gearing to run? my mountain bike has a 44 chainring and a 11 on back which i do like. Would a bigger chainring help? and would racing cassette be better?
Sorry for all the questions i just want ideas before i start spending money
Thank you for any help and ideas
Michael

It's a decent enough bike, but you'll find a whole-drivetrain replacement expensive. What's worn out? With slicker tyres and mudguards, that'd make a nice solid commuter.

thanks for ideas so far, the chain has been replaced the only thing i need is the rear cassette as i have a triple ring chainring but thats got a 46 tooth as biggest and the arm lenght is only 150mm but œ4.99 inc p&p brand new wasnt bad.
I do like racing bikes i still have one but its pretty old and getting too small now also the brakes don't work in the rain my commute at the moment is just a long A road with a bike path the downside is speed limit is either 40MPH or national speed limit and it is abit hilly in places
anymore ideas keep them coming as i am open to any suguestions, may try it one day on my single speed just for fun0
