Knee pain and help

A couple of weeks ago I came off my bike in the wet on my way to work. I've been to the doctor and was told that I have partially torn my medial ligament on my left knee, but no matter I can still cycle just with some strong drugs.
But yesterday as I cycled to work I started to get discomfort behind my right kneecap. I can only assume that when I got out of the saddle to go up a couple of short slopes I've done something, anyway it got worse the further I cycled. Even just trying to spin in a low gear didn't eleviate the discomfort and I think it hurt more as I freewheeled downhill.
I rested it today, but tonight after a half mile test ride it came back. Does anyone know what I might have done this time? I've just had my new Fulcrum 3's delivered and I want to try them...

well I am not a docter...but I had a knee injury similar to what yours sounds like after I tripped over a tree route and landed badly. I was limping around for a few months in pain thinking it was a muscle tear or something... I finally saw the quack, got referred and ended up having keyhole surgery on my left kneee to cut out the section of cartiledge I had torn. Apparently cariledge doesnt grow back, when it's gone it's gone.
I had three hole drilled in me and it took a few hours. It hurt like buggery for a few weeks afterwards but now it is fine, and no scars.
My advice (if you havent already sorted this out..given thread date) is to get this seen to...I was told that ripped cartilege if untreated can tear even worse. Mine was the bit in between the two knee bones, so it was pretty important.
Can you still walk up stairs without going up one leg at a time? I couldn't...if thats you..go get a Doc's opinion asap.Gravity sucks0 -
Knees are funny things. I damaged one of mine in a car accident years ago, and it still gives trouble. If I push too hard on a long ride (rather than spinning), it can give real pain for days to follow.
I've learned never to get out of the saddle for long, and to keep my knees warm at all costs (this really helps - you don't always realise how cool they're getting even in summer).
My medic is reluctant to interfere with it on the grounds that 99% of the time it's OK, and even on a long cycling trip I can live with it as long as I look after it. If it's interfered with, it might get worse before it gets better.
