Circuit for the Bluestone Banbury RR - 10/6/07

Anyone know what the proposed circuit is like for this road race?

I've entered already but have now been told by a mate that the old course they used was "lumpier than a witch's tit". Now, as my ability to climb hills is often likened to that of the common house brick, I suspect I may be in for a good old fashioned shoeing.

Should I start panicking yet?

Yep, I think panicking would be a good solution[:D]
It is not lumpy, there is just one mighty climb every lap. The good news is that it's only 3 laps and the climb is over in 4 to 5 mins depending on your ability. The bad news is that it's very steep especially at the top and after the top it flat and the bunch is moving fast since everyone is trying to catch the wheel in front so it's really hard.

You'll be OK. Actually the race doesn't split up as much as you'd think because everyone wants ot be fresh for the climb so it's usually pretty steady for the rest of the lap, so don't give up if your at the back after the climb, just press on and you'll get back on.

  • So how did it go I hear you clamour..............anyone? Oh well, I'll tell you anyway.

First time up Edge Hill, my inability to climb found me off the back with a few others for company. With the help of "oldwelshman" (of this parish), 3 of us managed to get back on, but it took half a lap (about 8 miles) and I used a lot of energy in the process.

Unfortunately, next time up the climb, the leggies didn't want to play at all and I was off the back again, this time alone. A half-hearted solo chase was never gonna cut it and I packed after crossing the finish line for the 2nd time.

Oh well, at least I got to watch the finish (3rd lap) and congrats to the young lad from CC Giro who took the win. I was surprised that there was still a pretty big group together at the end, at least 30 of the 70 starters.

Next up, the Dave Ryan Road Race at Oxford on 1st July............now, I'm keeping fingers crossed that there won't be a big fat hill in that one!
