Passing a School - Cars Stopping Rant!

Update:-
I wrote to the council and received a very prompt reply stating that the school will be put back on the Parking Attendant deployment rota until the situation improves.
In real terms this probably means a traffic warden standing outside the school a few times a week while parents ignore them and stop outside anyway - but I'm pretty impressed by the speed of response and the fact that the council are taking action.
Useful background is that (in Manchester anyway) parking attendant school deployment rota is changed monthly utilising feedback from several sources including school crossing patrol officers, local councillors and members of the public so it's certainly worth reporting hotspots.
I was also informed that driving without due care and attention (ie pulling out wiwthout looking) is a matter for the police. Which is great, but i don't suppose the police are going to mount a surveilance aoperation if I call them and tell them...0 -
zig zags are enforceable by fine because i know someone who parked with her bumper an inch over them in a shopping centre (which even i admit was debatable) when she was 9 months preggy and about to drop and a copper fined her. did feel a tad sorry for her because it was more like 1mm over.

The white zigzags such as the ones flanking ped crossings are legally enforceable (Fixed Penalty œ60 and 3 points) while the yellow zigzags outside schools are 'advisory' only.

My 5 year old daughter is walked to and from school everyday. It's about 1/2 a mile which makes for a 2 mile walk for me or my partner which is no bad thing. We walk in rain, snow etc as well.
The school has had a lot of problems with parents driving onto school premises to park and has repeatadely asked them not to. This has been ignored and now the new Head gets the caretaker, quite a big chap, to stand in the school drive to prevent people driving in. It works! Most people seem to park reasonably on the road as well.0
