I joined Dave and a good bunch on a recce ride on the w/e. I only got as far as Cheddar before heading back for home so hope they all made it ok. It should be good on the night and hope to see you there!

I'm sure I had one of those here somewhere

The Cheddar descent in the dark is a delight!

Alas I'll be riding across Scotland instead (okay, not really alas). But I'll be thinking about you..!

I'm glad you added that qualifier. I was about to lock all the doors and not let you in!

    I'll be there....

Rode last year and thoroughly enjoyed it, here's hoping the second is as much fun [:D]

Already looking forward to my fry up (and the massive ice cream after that).

I shall be there again. An absolutely splendid route.

Who's going to be the first to do it fixed?

[:D][:D] "years'" would have done the job!

It's on the 30th of June. Well, 30th/1st of July. The tricky bit will be getting home, i'll probably get the train.

  • Missed it last year
This year it is on the calendar
I will be riding home afterwards back to Devon/Somerset border, and maybe to the start if I have the time

  • As I was brought up in Exmouth many years ago I am tempted to join in even though I now live in the Camridgshire fens.

Advice appreciated on what front light/lights to use. As I dont do much riding at night I am not over keen on spending a fortune just for this event. Any suggestions would be appreciated !

I did this last year and used a couple of these http://www.cateye.com/en/product_detail/263 borrowed off mine and the the other halfs commuting bikes, they did the job fine.

As you are in a bunch, collectivly you light up the road as well. so that helps.

Big lights good. If you plan on caning it down the Gorge, turn *everything on*. I rode with 5W and 12W Lumis, used the 5W all night and added the 12W for the plummet of grinning deth. That was plenty.

Iused an EL300 and another Cat Eye, which was adequate except for the Cheddar Gorge where I found myself hugging the middle of the road for safety.

The rest of the time I had the full benefit of riding with Andy and Chuffy, who both had Lumis [:P]

Oooh, and apparently this year the ride is on a "Blue Moon" which means it's the second full moon in one month and it hasn't happened for 40 odd years.....

Full moon over Priddy? Low-lying mist, eerie glows... watch out for Banksy's were-sheep!

    Bump!

Two weeks to go now. For the unenlightened, feel free to tailgate myself and Bags. She's got a Lumi Halide Death Beam. It looks like someone has fettled a lightsabre to the bars. Our ride will be soundtracked by the sizzle of frying moths, unless Bunnychap drowns them out by singing 80's hits you know and secretly love all the way to the sea.
Oooooh, "Exmouth beach, far away in time" etc...

Keep your eyes open for an over-excited teenager with an Orbea road bike and dhb cycling kit, guys!
I'll be taking some Smart halogen 10 watt jobbies and well as a cat-eye LED of some description (haven't bought it yet, so I don't know which one!)

The weather man said it's gonna be dire on Friday night, no mention of the all important saturday night forecast yet though. They're obviously not sure! Showers would be fine, but persistant heavy rain and strong winds might take the fun away slightly!
