-A century is a single ride of at least 100.0 <b>miles</b> as measured on a reasonably accurate cycle computer. 99.9 miles or less is not a century.
-Breaks/stops during the ride are permitted for refreshment/repairs/sightseeing etc but stops to sleep and stops at your home are not permitted.
-A qualifying century cannot start before 0001hrs on the morning of the first day of the calendar month.
-For qualifying rides ridden on the last day of the month: the 100.0 mile mark must have been passed by 2359.59 hrs on that day.
-If you miss a month you are out of the challenge, no exceptions for any reason, riding more than one century in a month does <u>not</u> entitle you to miss a month in lieu.
-Centuries ridden on rollers/turbo trainers/indoor velodromes do not count towards the challenge.
-Qualifying rides should be posted in this thread. Simply post once and subsequently edit that one post each month....for an example check here: http://www.cyclingplus.co.uk/forum/topi ... hichpage=1
-There will once again be a Century A Month Chat thread specifically for posting comments, planned rides, bowing out excuses etc which will keep the main Register as neat and tidy as possible.

A very pleasant day’s sociable cyling, albeit unusual. Weather was better than forecast, though it was purely good luck that we avoided heavy rain near Melbourne. Winds were significantly stronger than forecast, and, unusually, did not seem match the nearest Met Office observations. Fortunately it was a headwind for only about 20% of the time.
Saturday 29th September 2007 – Around the West Midlands.
(C21), 135 miles, 1605 m, total time 10:37 (riding time 8:46).
Average riding speed 15.1 mph, 46x18.
Solihull – Chadwick End – Barnt Green – Kinver – Coven (lunch) – Chasetown – Kingsbury – Bedworth – Brinklow – Wolston - Cubbington – Chadwick End - Solihull.
A nice warm autumn day. The light-moderate NE wind pushed the average speed up on the flatter roads of the return past Coventry.
I’ve been tempted with a circuit ouside the current West Midlands county for some time and it proved to be a very pleasant ride through many quiet lanes. It was also easier than expected - I had enough legs left on Sunday to do a CTC ride which took my total for the weekend to 190 miles.
Saturday 20th October 2007 – Frenchie’s acf Derbyshire Hills ride.

A lovely sunny day with minimal breeze and good visibility – truly ideal conditions to enjoy such superb scenery.
Monday 5th November 2007 – Cleeve Hill
(C23, and probably the last for several months), 101 miles, 1340 m, total time 9:00 (riding time 7:00).
Average riding speed 14.4 mph, 46x19.
Solihull – Alcester – Evesham – Winchcombe – Cheltenham – Syreford – Winchcombe(lunch at the Plaisterers Arms) – Broadway – Honeybourne – Welford-on Avon – Little Alne – Lowsonford - Solihull.
Rather mixed weather, though decidedly mild, but not the best visibility for a hill-climbing ride. Wind started light S, gradually freshening to give a nice tailwind up the Vale of Evesham and across the Avon. However the horizontal rain that arrived after 85 miles was accompanied by a big wind shift – stiff headwind for the remainder of the ride.

Light but freshening W wind, bright & sunny with the odd worrying shower, cold on top with good visibility. I'd set out for an indulgent day, connecting some of my fave lanes and to climb Bovey to Haytor, and was rewarded with a great day out.Esp enjoyed Chillaton to Lydford. Usual lunch at Waitrose Okehampton. Knocked off bike at Lee Mill after 97m, ambulance arrived < 3mins, but only a hole in the jacket to show and no damage to me or bike
Mon 26th March:The circuit of Dartmoor(C27) 100.8 miles

Fresh N/E/S/W wind which followed me round all day-in my face, bright & sunny with haze obscuring the views. A repeat of the indulgent day of last month, connecting some of my fave lanes and to and to repeat the climb Bovey to Haytor, which felt easier this time. Esp enjoyed Chillaton to Lydford again and the usual lunch at Waitrose Okehampton, where I sat in the sun by a stream eating my beef sarnie and hot cross buns

I emphasise the Welsh placenames, as that section of this Audax route is special (that section would make a great day ride of about 80m) Lovely day out. Chilly start giving way to a glorious spring afternoon. Worked with two riders for 90m to the finish
Sun 13th May(C29)The Fred Whitton Challenge112m, Total time 7h 14m total. Bike: Litespeed Classic, set up for summer with new Marchisio cassette (13/30) and FSA CT carbon crankset
-Absolutely fabulous day out. A hard day on the bike, but so rewarding, and satisfying, with Hardknott and Wrynose exactly where they should be-the sting at the end. Coolish start with damp road giving way to reasonable sunshine by early afternoon-glad not to get the weather the Dartmoor Classic did. My time was 14mins off "elite" I felt I rode within myself, and regret not finding good groups to work with on the flat-could have done better-ah, there's next year-if I can get a place. Also done 400k and 600k Audaxes this month, but the Fred has it-easily , disappointed to miss Elite status by 14 mins-probably caused by not getting in a group on the flat sections-and when I did, working for others happy to hang on-

Another cracking day out, lovely weather, great route with excellent organisation and signage. Probably harder than the Fred Whitton last month.Dropped chain three times, which was a real bore. shame there was a headwind on the drop off (not called a descent(!) from Fleet Moss. Love riding in the Dales
Sat 8th July (C31)175km (111.0 miles) La Marmotte Total time:8hours 43mins for gold medal, which was the target for the year. Bike: Litespeed Classic
Bourg D'Oisans, Col Glandon, Maurienne Valley, Col Telegraph, Valloire, Col Galibier, Lauteret, Alpe D'huez
Such a classic route, and a gorgeous day on which to do it. Huge bowl of muesli at 5.30am, taken to the start by Roger, a good number saw me in the first starting pen, chatting to people I'd met on La Vaujany Sportif a few days earlier, but also meant I spent most of the day being overtaken, which given my usual crap starting numbers, was new. In fact I overtook my first cyclist after about an hour and that was an old lady on a shopper. Easily to Glandon, and worried about the descent which was well marshalled, so increasingly confident, overtook many on the way down. Dropped onthe Maurienne flat stretch into the headwind, meant I struggled to Telegraph where there were hundreds of Dutch campers feeding their teams and loved ones. Having Done Telegraph/Galibier the previous week, I knew what was coming, but it still hurt and still surprisingly long. 10 mins on Galibier, taking in view, air, food, water, rest, and donning jacket started descent. Lost a pack at the long tunnel and had to do much on my own or with one other, and again found this trying into a headwind. Warming up ominously for AD, stopped at the ravito at the bottom, gulped a dozen orange segments, salamis, etc, and set off. Carnage, as last years Etape-and the bulk of the people hadn't arrived, overtaking people in dribs and drabs now, and only being overtaken by a few, temp rose to 42C, I perform comparitively well in the heat, though started to get really painful "hotfoot". By bend 5 I'd just about had it, and was overtaken by Joe who'd started30 mins later-"never again", and various 4 letter words was all I could say and he wasn't much better. Roger was waiting on bend 3 by the photographer and escorted me to the finish-I was absolutely all in, and panting away, unable to keep up with him. Star man, he'd brought some recovery drink, in a litre of milk, which i shared with Joe, and started to feel right immediately. Went for a beer at the cafe at Villard Reculas, and watched the Prologue in London, with a (subsequently misguided) feeling of optimism. Dinner in French with Joe and some of his friends topped off a perfect day, slept fantastically, and woke at 8, in time to get to Bourg for the AD time trial. NO WAY! Writing nearly 8 weeks after, I'm ready to do it again.
Other centuries this month included, La Vaujany Sportif, and L'Etape du Tour-four ascents of AD in total too
Sunday 4th August (C32) 100 miles. Iron Mountain Classic Total time 5 hours 29mins (including stops. Bike: Litespeed Classic
Don't really know where this one went,....fast training for Paris Brest Paris later in the month.
Start was very fast and it would have been good to have got in the leading group with the London Dynamos et al, but waited for Dom.
Well signposted and marshalled, it was lovely to be waved onto the roundabouts at the finish, by the police and to see how much support there was for cycling in Abegavenny. Also did one other Century, the weekend prior to PBP
Sunday 23rd September (C33)186.8 km (110.0 miles) Devon Rural...Total time 10 hours 7mins (including stops. Bike: 853 steel in Audax mode

Friday 19th October (C34) 100m Exmoor Delight.....Total time 9 hours 20mins (including stops. Bike: 853 steel in Audax mode
Tiverton, Dulverton, Exford, Dunkery Beacon, Porlock and it's HIll, Lynton (and it's hill) Valley of the Rocks, Toll Road past Woody Bay, Blackwood Corner on A39, Challacombe, Span Head, Sandy Way, Molland, Dulverton, Tiverton (95m so couple or miles up and down the road to get to exactly 100m)
Perfect autumnal day, very crisp morning and out in full tights and airblock jacket for the first time this year. Nice ride up the Exe valley, even nicer leaving Dulverton on B3223, to Exford. 1st visit to Porlock, Hill not that bad. Lovely ride along the top to Lynmouth and cautious descent of Countisbury Hill (faster next time), lovely views of the coast back up the hill. Grunt up to Lynton, goats at Valley of the Rocks where I should have stopped for picnic, but now conscious of time. Toll Road was delightful through the woods, and so to Challacombe on B3358. The object here was to go up to Span Head a long planned excursion from Sandy Way X on the other side. R over ford at Challacombe saw a climb and sharp L onto a gated (public) road, and to a badly signed X where L (sp Simonsbath) to Span Head-really worth the effort as now on the top of Exmoor all the way back to Dulverton, via the X at Twitchen, Sandy Way, Molland etc)
A rising Easterly made this more difficult and cold, compensated by a gorgeous sunset. BUT the penalty of starting so late was to ride the remaining 12 miles into Tiverton in the dark. I had lights or so I thought. The main spot light died after 10 mins, leaving me only a "Backupz" on the front and a failing flasher on the rear. The rear facing backupz in my helmet was the best light! I was repeatedly blinded by cars coming the other way, not helped by not dipping their lights as presumably I was all but invisible even wearing yellow and with the front backups on the bars. Luckily I seemed to be visible from the rear. I was pleased to get back to the car, made a note that I must check batteries more thoroughly before setting off on a trip like that
I observe that my system must be getting used to this sort of treatment. Having had the usual huge bowl of muesli, I took a couple of gels, a couple of French "pate de fruits" and a bottle of own make energy drink, replenished using powder stored in a tube. No other sustenance, and not that hungry at the finish. (Own make drink is 80/20 maltodextrine/dextrose with a pinch of Lo Salt or a Isostar tab)
Tuesday 27th November(C35) 100m Exmoor Round...

Poole Nynehead, Milverton, Wiveliscombe, Upton, Withiel Hill, Weddon X, Winsford,Exford, ? Point (steep) A 39 W of Porlock, Countisbury, Lynmouth, Simonsbath via TOB climb, Kinsford Hill, Sandy Way, Molland, Dulverton, Brushford, Shillingford, Waterrow, Wiveliscombe, Milverton Poole-Bikely gives 97m but my odometer gave exactly 100.00, and I'm not going back
Grey old day, with muddy roads, OK to Wiveliscombe, and got slightly off intended route towards Clatworthy, so went to Upton instead. Nice through those lanes and on big road towards Brendon, and Withiel Hill and so to Wheddon X where I would have stopped for a coffee had anything been open. Down to near Exton, and on lovely roads to Winsford and so to Exford, though going slightly L at one point would have resulted in an easier entry to Exford. Very steep out of Edgcott, but stunning riding thereafter. Lovely ride along the top to Lynmouth and cautious descent of Countisbury Hill (faster than last time but still wary esp in the greasy conditions.... next time), the TOB climb is really nice, and up some more to Kinsford Hill, and thence onto well known gorund, via the X at Twitchen, Sandy Way, Molland etc) Easy through the lanes back to Poole to collect the car
Lynmouth was deserted and tired touristy, so stopped for a quick cheese baguette, and bought several Snickers. This and a couple of bottles of energy drink were all I had all day-except for the one caffeinated gel I enjoyed on the A39
Friday 7th December(C36) Plymouth-Taunton.........
99.5m, Train to Plymouth and 7m home.Total time 8hours 20mins for the 1st 99.5m(including stops. Bike: Carpe Diem in Audax mode. I was going to try to do a lot of offroad(Plym Valley, Jobbers Track, Tiverton Canals etc) on this ride, using cross tyres, but there had been so much rain, changed my mind-and wheels
Yealmpton, Smithaleigh, Cornwood, Meavy, Burrator, Princetown, Moretonhamsptead, Dunsford, Exeter. Tiverton, Bampton, Shillingford, Waterrow, Wiveliscombe, Milverton Taunton.
Left before 8am, and was soaked within 30 mins in spite of waiting in a busstop at Wotter, soaked again after Princetown. The promised Westerly was in fact a Northerly, and of no help, until later on. Great all day breakfast at Bawley's Cafe at Bampton after 76m for lunch, where met a cyclist who'd ridden 700m of canals in France in the summer, and an agricultural worker. Great last 20m to Taunton, with a brisk following wind giving a boost to end of the last century of the year. Train to Plymouth, and finished the ride to Yealmpton.“It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best..." Ernest Hemingway0 -
6/1/2007 Tamworth to Measham, then South east to Southam, South West to Stow on the Wold, north to Stratford on Avon, North back to Tamworth. 212 km's time immaterial but slow, head wind and driving rain made it a character building day.
3/2/2007 <b>The Marlborough Connection (C45)</b> Starting from Woodstock going S down to Hungerford over Hackpen hill, then W to Marlborough and NW to Wotton Basett, then on to Lechlade and back. Even two visitations did not spoil a perfect day out, just put me even further at the back.
17/3/2007 <b>The Wiltshire White Horses (C46)</b> Starting from Down Ampney South and up the Broad Town hill then west to Calne. Then it was south and east to Pewsey then south and over the plain to Amesbury. From there it was West into the wind to the Lavingtons, then a loop round and back to Calne for the last stop before the final leg via Wotton Basset and Ashton Kaynes. All in all a very good day but the leg into the wind robbed me of most of the spare time I had built up.
1/4/2007 <b>The Ironbridge 200 (C47)</b>Starting from Holmes Chapel there is a breif trip north and east to an info control and then it is south to Market Drayton and on south through Lillishall to Iron Bridge. Then the route goes North to Wroxeter and the roman ruins and again north through Wem to Prees Heathand the last control before heading NE back to the start. The fantastic lanes more than made up for the greater than normal amount of A roads (they were fairly quiet. We were witness to an accident just before Wem and this robbed us of 15 - 20 mins, but we were still back in the daylight.0 -
<b>14 Jan 2007:(C37)</b>104.3 miles: Bristol - Chipping Sodbury - Tetbury - Malmesbury - Lyneham - Calne - Devizes - Trowbridge - Frome - Norton Radstock - Farrington Gurney - Pensford - Bristol. Ride time 7hrs 40. Mild, mostly dry day with a bit of wind from the southwest. Great start to the year!
<b>26 February 2007:(c38)</b> 104.7 miles: Bristol - Bath - Chippenham - Calne - Marlborough - Newbury - Reading - lost the A4 in the dark and the rush hour traffic - Wokingham - back to Twyford - Maidenhead - Slough. Train back , then 3 miles home. 7hrs 10 total time to 100 miles.
<b>25 March 2007: (c39)</b> 125.15 miles, plus 3 miles to the station: Bristol Parkway to Slough (train - should have been to use up the second half of last month's return - except I bl**dy lost it) - Stoke Poges - Burnham Beeches - Bourne End - Cookham Rise - Cookham Dean - Temple - Henley-on-Thames - Wallingford - Oxford - Cirencester - Chipping Sodbury - Bristol. 7hrs 10 total time to 100 miles. Really nice ride, but needed lots of map-reading at the beginning, so was pleased to have managed a reasonable ride time.
<b>9 April 2007: (c40)</b>144 miles. Bl88dy knackered. I didn't mean to do this: thought I was maybe doing 110. So... Bristol - Bath - Warminster - backroad along the Wylye valley to Wilton - Salisbury - Stockbridge - Andover - Devizes - Chippenham - Castle Combe - Chipping Sodbury - Bristol. 7 hrs 29 ride time to 100 miles; 11hrs 30 total time at end of ride. Some really pretty parts, but the ride back over Salisbury Plain was interminable! Good dry day with some sunshine and just a westerly breeze.
<b>12 May 2007: (c41)</b>103 miles, plus 3 each way to the station. (Train to Worcester) then Worcester - Stourbridge - Ru88ell and the wonderful Stourbug ladies' ride to Stratford - Evesham - Cheltenham - Gloucester. Fabulous day in spite of the mixed weather. Ru88ell and the Sourbugs ladies are an inspiration! No rides times: I set off at 5.15am - got back at 9.30pm
<b>2 June 2007: (c42) </b>124.5 miles, plus 3 miles back from the station. Elapsed time 11 hours 45! Average speed 14.7 Bristol - Acton Turville - Malmesbury - Swindon - Wanborough - Roger Zilla's amazing tour of Wiltshire, Hampshire and Berkshire's finest eating establishments - as far as Greenham Common and back to Swindon. Train home. Weather forecast had been hideous but it turned out to be a fabulous day.
28 July 2007: (c43) 112 miles, plus 3 miles back from station. Time to 100 miles 7 hours 15. Would have been ontrack for quite afast on (for me) but stupidly bonked at about 97 miles, so had to find somewhere to stop and eat, then took a good 10 miles to recover. Bristol - Bath - Chippenham - Silbury Hill - Avebury - Marlborough - Hungerford - Newbury - Basingstoke - Farnham - Guildford. Train back to Bristol.
24 August 2007: (c44) 130 miles, plus 84 the next day and 3 home from the station. Bristol - Monmouth - Hay-on-Wye - Rhayader - Buith Wells - Aberystwyth. Next day: Aberystwyth - Aberaeron - Llandysul - Carmarthen - Swansea. Fabulous ride, great help from Tourist Info at Monmouth who booked my B&B and got directions faxed to Hay-on-Wye for me to collect. Very impressed!
2 September 2007: (c45) 100.30 miles: real knife-and-forker though, so will try to go out again later in the month. Bristol A38 - Axbridge - Bridgewater - Taunton - Wellington - Appledore B3391 - Uffculme 'Fibre Fest' Country Fair - Wellington - Taunton. Train back to Templemeads - home - not allowed into house until I rode twice round the village to make up last 5 miles.
21 October 2007: (c46) 101.55 miles: glorious day, starting out at just +1 degree C, but sunshine for the whole time I was out. Very little wind. Bristol - Gloucester - Cheltenham - Northleach - Bibury - Cirencester - Tetbury - Chipping Sodbury - Bristol.
26 November 2007: (c47) 111.45 miles: great ride, although weather was drizzly to start with and stayed grey all day. Met up with a friend in Marlborough which made all the difference. Bristol - Westonbirt - Tetbury - Cirencester - Swindon - Marlborough - Chippenham - Bath - Bristol.
26 December 2007: (c48) 106.29: yes, Boxing Day so felt very smug as everyone passed me in their cars on the way to the sales. Slow ride (been fighting off a cold all week) but mild and dry so quite pleasant. Bristol - Bath - Warminster - Deptford - STONEHENGE - Amesbury - Devizes - Melksham - Bath - Bristol.0 -

This was a club run+cycle ride to and from+20miles extra cycling. The cracking pace on the return leg of the club run left me struggling by the end of the ride.

100 miles. Acton - Cobham - Plaistow -Steyning - Brighton - Crawley. A cracking ride, but, jeez, it was cold and had to walk a couple of short stretches due to the ice. Had planned to cycle back into London, but after dark it was a Hobson's choice between unlit main roads or unlit minor roads with ice on them, so took the train home.0
