Apparently he doesn't have an agent. Alex Carrera (Italian agent to the stars) was right in just after the finish.

He's actually on the same Canyon MTB team as Schwarzbauer, Lecomte & Burquier; Canyon have another multi discipline star, they'd be mad not to keep hold of him.

Are there any events the Danes don't win? E.g. track team pursuit...

    Mads for tomorrow? 🤔

Fingers crossed! Mads deserves to get to ride Paris-Roubaix in the rainbow, he was cheated in 2020

Denmark seems to be the preeminent nation in cycling. I wonder how much the cycling friendly infrastructure has contributed to this?

It's a good question. It undoubtedly helps that every kid learns to ride early and rides for transport to school and after school activities - that just gives you a wide base of potential.

Over that, I doubt it's that important - the keys here are a well organised club scene with access to decent equipment, high standard of living/money for bikes, and a youth dev system that tries to nurture young riders rather than just turn out winners.

There's also a probable influence in that Denmark has the leading TV viewing figures for the Tour outside France (has done for years!) and also shows at least some of the classics and other stage races on terrestrial TV. If kids can get inspired to race then the inspiration is at least available to them.

The track stuff is another bonus, there's a long tradition in DK - e.g. the Ballerup 6 day - and a good national setup - with performance and testing as a major part.

At the very start of this thread I made the point that traditionally, Danish riders were seen as very good in youth categories, but unable to step up when reaching pro levels, but that we needed to see if this was changing. The theory was that young Danes were over-coached, over-trained, well organised and race-savvy, but with potential already maxed there was no space for further development and they would burn out fast. That seems to be gone now.

Ironically, it may have been the end of SaxoBank as a Danish team that helped. Good Danish riders tended to end up there, but with Contador as focus and captain. Having to spread out through the pro peloton has enabled them to maybe race with their own characteristics, even for themselves. And success has bred success - they've all raced against and beaten each other, e.g. "if Asgreen can win Flanders and Kragh can win Tour stages, then why can't I win XXXXX...?"

Danes are now thought of as hard working, professional, intelligent, able to communicate easily (at least in English), no-drama and good team players. Pretty much any WT team is looking at them.

It is interesting how northern Europe has come to dominate cycling now.

Really feels like Europe over the potato/tomato border is a cycling minnow now.

Re domination, I think it's easy to get a lot of recency bias, as well as a few riders having an over-pronounced effect. Vingegaard, MvdP, Pog and WVA all really skew the stats and our perception of them.

It does feel more like it should be northern Europe for some reason to be fair. Level with northern Italy and the Massif Central so it's borderline really I suppose.

    Bit of a day here:
Mads P - fresh off winning the Tour of Denmark by destroying the field on the short final TT took the Bemer Classic in Hamburg with a ridiculous effort to bridge and win the sprint
Anders Foldager (22, stagiare for Jayco) took the first stage in the Tour de l'Avenir
Mads Landbo (18, Uno-X dev team) won stage 3 of the Baltic Chain Tour(2.2) - first pro win

Yesterday was a decent viking day, Cecilie Uttrup Ludvig taking the final stage, points jersey and 2nd overall in the Tour of Scandinavia, while Andreas Kron got a well deserved win at last, taking the (much buggered around with) 2nd stage of the Vuelta

  • Apparently Sep Kuss had paid the Danegeld (several times, to be fair), so Vingegaard let him live.

Denmark finish the season second in national ranking, behind the mighty Belgium

    This is an exceptional result

Never thought I would see the day Britain and Slovenia are consistently outgunning Spain, Italy and Holland in the national rankings.

Slightly surprised to see GB still so high. I guess quite a bit of that is down to the Yates' and GT.

Pidcock as well (more than GT), and Tao has a surprising amount of points for someone who hasn't raced since mid May

Four teams now on the shortlist for signing mega talent Albert Philipsen....and he's confident to make demands on what he wants.

Yeah, that's for 2025. Ineos, Bora, UAE and Lidl-Trek are the teams, he'll want to ride MTB as well and the idea is to spend first half of '25 on a dev team somehow

Bonus trivia question: He's the Danish Jnr champ in Road race, TT, MTB XCO and Cross. Which is the only jersey of those he can wear in a race?

He can wear his Jnr Danish cross champion jersey

He has a higher level jersey for all the other disciplines:
    Road race Jnr World champ
    TT Jnr European champ
MTB XCO Jnr World and European champ

He was only 8th at the Jnr cross worlds
