Re: Your Anti-Rants here

WFH today. It may have been windy, but it was sunny and reasonably warm so, after riding with my eldest to school, took a wrong turn, got lost, and made it back home 25 miles later. Lovely ride, thoroughly enjoyable, and first time I'd done anything other than commuting since August. EDIT: Also aced...

Re: BREXIT - Bercow & Swinson Meet Their EU Bosses to Receive New Orders

There is a nice chaos quote on wikipedia. Chaos: When the present determines the future, but the approximate present does not approximately determine the future. I think it's very easy to throw your hands up and say "there are too many variables; it can't be done". It may be the case, but...

Re: BREXIT - Bercow & Swinson Meet Their EU Bosses to Receive New Orders

There is a nice chaos quote on wikipedia. Chaos: When the present determines the future, but the approximate present does not approximately determine the future. That's deterministic chaos. Which doesn't quite work, because reality is quantum, and quantum theory is probabilistic. So even in perfecl...

Re: Silly commuting racing

At least with derestricted ebikes you know they're "cheating". Being passed by pro conti riders makes you (me) very aware of my severe limitations as a rider. Never mind pro-conti. I regularly race with conti level riders who destroy me! I'll be honest. I suck. Anybody at 4 W/kg will tras...

Re: Your rants here.

Got a visit from the fairy (nail went straight through brand new GP4S) 2km from afterschool club, with just 20 minutes to closing time, and with no backup available. Yeah, yeah, should have left work earlier. I somehow made it only one minute late, but darn that was close. Maybe I really should get ...

Also, if you're comfortable, choose a rainy day! That'll do wonders to traffic.

Re: Your rants here.

Riding home today, by the Meadows, a Nissan Qashqai, that had seen me because we'd been trading places thanks to lights a hundred meters before, decided to squeeze me, on the painted bike lane, while doing 22-23 mph. It's not that I could reach out and touch the car, it's that I could hit it with my...

Re: BREXIT - Back to the Tartarian Crag

I posted it more for the reference to a 'secret deal' than Peston's credentials. It occurs that it may be the cunning plan that various cabinet ministers are hinting at. As I said, I'm sceptical of Johnson's ability to pull it off, more so if his idea is just "let's just move the border posts ...

Re: Your rants here.

Rode to work, ended up wet (quelle surprise) and, when unpacking for the shower, realised I'd left my trousers home. So far, the "left at home" tally includes: Socks Boxers Work shirt (Most memorable) shoes Of these, the only one left for SCR bingo is... socks! (technically, I can't...

sedentary /ˈsɛd(ə)nt(ə)ri/ def: (of a position) sitting; seated. Neither golf, nor bowls are played whilst seated. Cycling, at least the way I do it, is carried out whilst seated. Pfff. Re: Thread to tell everyone what bargains you've spotted!

A while ago, I bought dhb's eVent rain jacket . I really dislike it. It's boil in the bag even at what I recon is 155 bpm. If you then stop "pushing", or started descending after a reasonable effort, it's easy to get cold from your own sweat. Not recommended. I'm unsure if these Shakedry j...

Johnson's speech to the UN was quite something https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/sep/25/pink-eyed-terminators-and-limbless-chickens-boris-johnsons-un-speech-in-quotes Is this real? Er ... Re: Thread to tell everyone what bike gear you've just bought !

A vitus 24 for Haggis Jr. Didn't quite find a Frog/Islabike of his size in my area in the right conditions or the right price except one that sold almost immediately, and am in a hurry, since we now cycle to school and his Frog 55 is definitely too small (he's not turned eight yet!)

Re: Your rants here.

WFH today. But as I left the car for MOT plus service, got to ride 15 non-commute miles back home. Reasonably warm, not too windy, and overall a very pleasant ride. But when I was almost home, approaching Ferry Rd. roundabout, with two lanes, a ducking hunt did a punishment pass, with inches to spar...

Re: Silly commuting racing

4c this morning at 6am i'm now no longer missing commuting to work by bike I commuted to my club chainy and back last night. Started out in bright sunshine but was already a bit colder than forecast. Finished chainy at quarter to 8 and rode home in the dark - nearly 35 miles and it was at least six...
