Re: Lacking confidence

Confidence comes from competence and that takes time. Take it easy, going out regularly and don't try anything you are not comfortable with. Watch videos and if you can afford it try and take some lessons. Having taken up MTBing at a later stage in my life and only having the time to go out once eve...

Re: Santa Cruz Nomad 650b build

That really is something special. If you ever get to Chengdu (now that BA have a direct route) I would recommend you bring the Nomad and spend a few days here. We have some very "Nomad shaped" mountains around here.

Re: Problem with Lapierre EI system

i'm tempted to flog it as suggested. I did my research as we were replacing three bikes on insurance, all 2k to 3k. Got Evans to build up and tested a couple. I thought the Norco Sight carbon 650b was spot on. Simple and burly. I just let ego get the better of me and didn't buy it when Evans refuse...

Re: Rockrider 9.1 full suspension - views/opinions?

I have one that has been relegated to my 'spare' for friends as I tend to do more big mountain stuff nowadays. It has proved very well built, reliable and surprisingly capable. The lack of a rear lockout is not a big deal as long as the shock is set correctly and the suspension is pretty efficient b...

Re: Problem with Lapierre EI system

Glad to hear you got it sorted in the end. I have the same system on my Ghost and touch wood it has been trouble free despite what it gets put through. Did you find out what the problem was and how it was fixed? The reason I ask is that there are no service agents in my part of the world so my choic...

Re: Am I a mountain biker

If you enjoy what you do that should be enough. Why worry about the label?

Mountain biking is a very broad church, let's not try to make it factional.

Re: Santa Cruz Solo/5010C build

I have just put a pair of LB 650b 35mm wheels on my bike. Nancy was the customer contact was very helpful and always replied very quickly to queries and time scales. Weight was extremely close to spec and finish is excellent, only ridden them once in anger due to this being a busy time of year for m...

Re: eBay mis hap... Fake Jagwire..

I have sent back more stuff than I have kept because counterfeits over here in China. I have even sent three sets of pikes back which were fake. Whenever anything turns up now it goes straight on the scales as that is the first giveaway. At least I have now located the regional distributor for SRAM ...

Do you need to change your rotors? What is the problem with them or are you getting a different size?

Re: Random brake question...

One big exception to the right drive rule is China. Their bikes (if they have brakes) are setup the same as the the UK. Given their heritage of being a bike country and having invented everything including fireworks, wind powered hand carts, the internet (I know but try telling that to a Chinese sch...

Re: Is it Worth Jioning MTB Himalaya 2014?

This looks like an endurance race mostly ridden on tarmac roads and fire trails. Probably more suited to a former Tour de France rider than someone looking for technical riding.

Re: Best Trail Centre?

I think you are all very lucky having so many places to ride in a relatively safe environment. There are no officially sanctioned trail centres in China. There are attempts to put together races on agricultural land but they tend to only survive a few years at most as land sales are the currency tha...

Re: Anyone Got Thule 532

Yes that is the part that holds the bike, the wheel straps alone will be useless. If it is new I would take it back to the shop as if the clamp is not secure you will lose your bike, (or find it coming in your window). I have now done a fair few miles with these on some very bad roads and they have ...

Re: Anyone Got Thule 532

I have three of these and not had a problem.

Assuming you have the wheel supports in the appropriate position then it should be fine. I found it much easier to set it up for the bikes on the floor the first time I used them.

Re: Trail Bike of the Year!

The problem for a lot of bike shops is that they not making big money and often (can) only pay relatively low wages in order to stay in business. They cannot always pick the staff based on interest and motivation in their service and product but take what they can get. The small businessman does not...
