Re: First Winter in the Saddle

I'm in Yorkshire so somewhere in between Scotland and Cornwall! I have to say after fighting my way through last winter I feel at least in a small way qualified to comment here!! I prefer the fleecy cycling leggings (with a pad). I have a pair of dhb ones that do fine as I rarely do more then 100km ...

Re: Otley sportive

I did the long route last year and it was a grand day out! The route was different I think but it was great fun and a great bunch of people doing it. The only reason I'm not doing it again is that I've got to work. :(

Re: New to Road cycling and need help!

I'm no expert but you do look quite stretched out. Your arms should be a little more bent if you are going to be comfy on longer rides. You look like you might suffer with your shoulders and neck like it is.

Re: So uncomfortable!

Rule #42 clearly states that: "A BIKE RACE SHALL NEVER BE PRECEDED WITH A SWIM AND/OR FOLLOWED BY A RUN. End of".

Hope you get comfy soon. There are some useful threads on here about choosing a good saddle and some bike shops let you try before you buy so check that out.

Re: A Pain in the... Saddle!

Have you tried different shorts? I find the shorts I wear make a massive difference to how comfortable I am. Different ones have padding in different areas. I am currently using Gore ones that have a really good pad and gel inserts. I don't get on with the Altura pro gel ones at all as they don't ha...

I always forget something when I go out. Yesterday I didn't forget anything but that just made the whole ride feel wrong. At least when I remember what I've forgotten I can get over it....

Re: Cycling clothing from eBay / China

Thanks! I've had a look on all over on the Internet but have to admit that the ladies stuff is naff! At least from abroad you can get something a bit different and not plain or pink! I see people with nice kit on but don't know where to get it from? Thanks. It's always great to hear what you're wea...

Re: Cycling clothing from eBay / China

Check out any of the online retailers. I know both wiggle and evans have got sales on at the moment and do free delivery. I picked up a new summer top pretty cheap from wiggle. Wiggle do free returns as well so you can order a load of different sizes and styles and only keep what you like.

I'd definitely go with the white saddle on that bike. Post a photo of the finished article won't you?

I'd second that on the endura overshoes. I used them all through last winter in all that foul weather and they are great. Not waterproof but really warm.

Re: Need some help choosing a saddle for my gf

I have the selle Italia one (although its in boring black as my bike is black and red) and I love it. I've popped out a couple of little nippers myself and I don't recall it made a difference to my bike riding position although I was riding a mountain bike not a road one at the time. (No - not at th...

Re: Weight loss and muscle toning

I did an alpine sportive recently and when I went back to work, still eating for England, my office mate told me I was eating 'like a teenage boy'! It was after I had just gone out to get a pastry because my lunch hadn't been big enough. Healthy eating is grossly over rated if you ask me.

Re: Can anyone suggest a good comfortable saddle for women?

The womens equivalent of the toupe is pretty comfy as well- I think it's called the Ruby (although confusingly it isn't the one I got as standard on my Spesh Ruby bike). I did the marmotte on that last year and didn't have any problems. I have since swapped to a Selle Italia Gel Flow Diva. It's a bi...

Re: Strategies for using energy products

A dietician friend of mine (who also happens to be a good marathon runner) told me that its as important to train the stomach as it is everything else for endurance events. You can't expect the stomach to take in something on the day of an event that its not used to from previous sessions. You eithe...

Re: Going to Morzine in September

We went last year and did all the above with the exception of encrenaz. All are amazing, quiet roads and incredible views. Enjoy! If you're into days lounging around after a ride the swimming lake on the way up to the joux verte is very pretty, if a little crowded on a hot day. We took the kids ther...

Re: Can women wear chest-strap heart rate monitors?

I wear a shock absorber but it's the cropped top style. I might have to try the run bra (for running obviously!) as I suspect it has a softer band than the cropped top style. To be honest the only reason I wear the heart rate monitor when out running is to get a more accurate estimate of calories bu...

I wear mine just under my bra. Pretty uncomfortable for running but don't notice it on the bike.
