Re: Ride London 2019 anyone?

The first hour of Ride London from Stratford to Kingston Bridge is just sensational. Hammering through east, central and west London at dawn with not a car in sight and running every red light. It’s surreal. For me the best part of the ride.

Re: Ride London 2019 anyone?

Why do 40,000 have to trudge to Excel to take part in registration for this event? It is the back of beyond even for Londoners - never mind those who’ve travelled from much farther afield and then have the slog of going to the Docklands. It took me 3 hours before work today and is a TOTAL inconvenie...

Re: Ride London 2018

Amazing how many people opted for no rain gear when a cursory look at the forecast made it quite clear how wet and windy it would be. Dress properly or prepare to get soaked and frozen quickly.

Re: Ride London 2017

Why is part of the Ride London entry, a half-day slog to the back end of nowhere to register and collect - the Excel Centre. Even for Londoners there could hardly be anywhere more inconvenient to get to. And how utterly crushing if you've never had the pleasure of Canning Town. I understand totally ...

Re: Dragon ride Gran Fondo 5th June 2016

The Gran Fondo never disappoints. The section after the new third feed stop through undulating lanes with high hedgerows to the old the old third feed station by the cattle grid haunts me. As does Cimla Road. What a last kick in the goolies. After 140 miles, Port Talbot always looks bleakly beautifu...

Hell of the Ashdown 2016

Not quite the same beast without the ice - for once - this year. But the lack of decent signage certainly made it hell. Still trying to work out how I ended up on Hubbards Hill and then the centre of Sevenoaks towards the end and, to be frank, there were quite a few junctions where it just wasn't cl...

Re: Ride London 2015

Riding through swathes of central London minus cars and traffic lights makes this event surreal and compulsive. Like no other. I especially like going full bore over Hammersmith flyover. When else could you do that?

Re: Ride London 2015

Why the absurd trek to Excel to register - absolutely the back of beyond even for Londoners. It's a pain enough having to do this each April for the marathon. I'd rather pay an extra £5 to have number and chip mailed out recorded than slog to SE250 on a 3 hour round trip. Can live without the expo g...

Re: Ride London 2014

Great fun again and the thrill of riding on closed central London roads is simply unbeatable and surreal. Especially the sections which are normally cycle-free like the A12 and Hammersmith flyover. Loved it. Rode GP4000s II's for the first time. 25's. That's me done with 23's. Fast, comfy and so sta...

Re: Ride London 2014

Met Office yellow warning. 'Outdoor activities may be dangerous'. Sorry, the forecast is horrendous and it needs to be cancelled now. What's the point in getting soaked for hours on a shortened route?

Re: Online Retailers - Great, Average, Poor Customer Service

Probikekit have driven me up the wall recently. I'll never use them again after these 2 shambolic episodes, the subject of a recent post... I've used PBK a lot in the last few years. In the main with no problem. But 2 recent purchases have been so irritating I feel compelled to flag up their incompe...

Wiggle Ups and Downs Epic place available - April 27

Work means I can't ride alas in this sold out event. Have a place on the Epic route. 102 miles. £25 and it's yours.

Fell of the Ashdown 2014.

Why was the Hell of the Ashdown allowed to start at 8am this morning? The conditions were lethal at that time. It was dangerous to walk a bike never mind try and ride one over some of the early miles. Packed it in after 30 minutes riding/pushing and then crashed at Knockoult trying to get back to th...

Re: Important message from Prudential RideLondon

Actually 8 London marathons - for which trains actually run. And trudging over to Excel yet again with only a 3 day window is totally inconvenient. I've spent an hour looking on the Internet for the drop-off zones. Unsuccessfully. Perhaps you could tell me where they are?

Re: Important message from Prudential RideLondon

Never ridden on an event involving so much hassle and so bewildering in terms of information being conveyed clearly and precisely. Just getting to Stratford for the start will be a bigger achievement than doing the ride. Shambolic.

Thanks for the £60 FSA seat post Andrew. But why no fixing bolts? If I thought I was getting a seat post minus bolts I wouldn't have bothered. It's unusable without them. I also sent you a number of emails but, as I write this, still no action as of 5 weeks after the original purchase. Instead a tra...
