Re: Thread To Tell Everyone What Fettling You've Just Done

Does this count? Recently changed cars to one with a much lower roofline and "sportsback" style boot, but still wanted to carry a bike upright inside, and with at least one rear passenger occasionally. This is the bodge I came up with: https://i.postimg.cc/8C5dcn28/20191013-160525.jpg The ...

Re: Thread to tell everyone what bargains you've spotted!

Mind you, after riding my hire bike today, i may well be in tbe market for a new 2019 model Orbea Orca. I know (most) of the roads over in Mallorca are nice and smooth, but I was struck at how well it does everything my Solace disc (i.e. comfort and pace over the various broken surfaces I managed t...

Re: Route from phone to Garmin

So, here I am sat in Mallorca trying to do a similar thing (xfer a route file from my phone) before my hire bike arrives tomorrow. Last year i brought my 520, and although i thought i'd followed the DCRainmaker advice to the letter after replacing my normal local map tiles with ones for Mallorca, I ...

Re: Anyone used Sram Force 1 groups for road riding?

I'm running a 42t Apex chainset with an 11-42t cassette on my gravel bike. I find it can spin out on the road reasonably early, but its ok. The clutch RD ensures silent running and the chain has yet to unship, so I'm happy with that. You can change out chainrings on the Rival and Force 1x chainset b...

Garmin Edge 530 from Evans, with 8% off with instant vouchers through work. Now to apply for the £50 loaded card. Seemed a cinch to set up, but choosing and sorting the data screens is proving to be a bit of a pain. Sounds like might have been able to get them to price match Winstanley Bikes as anot...

Re: Planet X Exocet 3/Exo3 frames

I keep looking at their Space Chicken gravel frame with 650b wheelset. But can't pluck up the courage to pull the trigger after looking at their online reviews, some sound pretty shocking. I keep telling myself they are likely to be the vocal minority, but I equally woukdnt want to be one of the (se...

Re: Thread To Tell Everyone What Fettling You've Just Done

^ Got my Westbrook's CR1 SL frameset in 2013, but have barely done anything to it since building it up. I have changed the chain once, and: Swapped the FSA wing pro's for some 3T Ernova carbon bars 4 mths ago, which also necesitated it's first cable change. Figured it'd been so long also treated it ...

Re: Thread to tell everyone what bargains you've spotted!

First ride in the Rapha glasses this morning. They are great. The nose piece is undeniably visible, but most of the time don't notice, especially when concentrating on avoiding potholes and other road hazards... The "Battlestar Galactica Cylon" looks are accentuated when paired with a Spes...

Re: Carbon Clinchers

I've currently got some Cosine 45mm Carbon clinchers that I want to replace. I've got about £1200 to spend. I've narrowed it down to either Roval CL50s (£1200) or Prime Black Edition 50s (£720). My question is are the Rovals going to be worth the extra money? Are there any others I should consider ...

Re: Thread to tell everyone what bargains you've spotted!

They're very good. Very light, cant feel them. Only issue with the pink ones are that you can occasionally see the nose bomb in your peripheral vision. My Rapha glasses turned up yesterday. Not ridden in them yet but agree the nose pad is rather omnipresent in your peripheral vision (mine's white, ...

agree - a friend had one and they were under the radar cool. brilliant to rise, nice and stiff, light. they were as good as anything twice the price the clubbies would buy and then go on about bikes from Halfords little realising their mate at the LBS was equally as hit and miss and the 5 minutes i...

Re: Spacer stuck on steerer tube - expander plug stuck?

Yeah, wasn't happy to leave the original in place as didn't seem to work as it should, so ordered this from Westbrook Cycles as a replacement for a tenner: https://i.postimg.cc/MGQ3TD7W/scott-1-1-8-headset-compression-kit-p336985-500772-medium.jpg Then thought I might treat myself to a new top cap, ...

Check out this video at 7 mins in. Shows exactly the issue I was having, and looked surprisingly easy to expand the steerer tube to the point a spacer wouldn't move freely up and down the steerer...think I might get a longer compression plug....any recommendations?

Re: Spacer stuck on steerer tube - expander plug stuck?

 Sorted now... Steerer must have been slightly deformed, I used a socket as a drift to strike the lower part of the bung, without hitting the outer sleeve. That fairly easily drove it into the steerer tube, but as it turned as it fell it rested at an angle which meant it didnt just fall out wh...
