Re: Road tubeless tyres, where and how much?

Any recommendations for decently puncture protected 32mm tubeless tyre for Audaxing, particurlarly PBP this year.

I'm in Chilterns, plenty of flint around.

Re: Handbuilt wheels... the big thread

Offset rims help if doing a tubeless build as tubeless tyres drop tension alot but there is nothing wrong with symmetric rims. Malcolm, I'm interested in this statement not disputing it just for my own mind. Do you set up tubeless to a lower spoke tension then? I can't understand how tubeless or tu...

Re: Road tubeless tyres, where and how much?

Does it work if you puncture though? or does it have to be liquid? Should have tried with my old tire. Needs to be liquid, the tyre will stay inflated when it's dried but when you have a puncture it goes down as per a normal tubed setup. I have found that the sealant lasts 2 months at my mileage of...

Orange RS4 hubs are great, mine with Kinlin 31mm rims and CX-Ray spokes in black with plain brass nipples

Re: Road tubeless tyres, where and how much?

600km Audax completed in 30+ deg at the weekend, melting tarmac etc.

Good few miles coming onto the Roadlites now, performance is excellent and they still look new, not a single mark or cut on them.

Re: Road tubeless tyres, where and how much?

Update on my IRC Roadlites. Following a 235 mile club ride a couple of weeks ago and the C2C in a day on Saturday together with a few hundred commuting miles I'm pleased to say they still look like new. Really impressed with dry and wet grip, can't tell any difference in rolling between my previous ...

Re: Road tubeless tyres, where and how much?

Malcolm, I understand what your saying, not sure whether you were directing some or all of your points to me also? I'm experienced and happy with tubeless in cx/mtb (up to 40psi) but new to the road side of things and still getting used to it. I feel I'm on the verge of being confident enough with i...

Re: Road tubeless tyres, where and how much?

Both these punctures I'm talking about were in pro ones. I had the terminal issue with a new roadlite but that was extreme cut and unlucky, just ordered another roadlite to replace the remaining pro one so will be on two new roadlites this week and see how it goes.

Re: Road tubeless tyres, where and how much?

Has anyone else experienced a puncture that's sealed previously blowing again when the weather is hot? It's happened to me twice now with larger holes. Both occasions were with caffelatex on pro one tyres. Once the bike was just sitting outside a shop in the sun and the other was yesterday whilst ri...

Re: Road tubeless tyres, where and how much?

You should also he able to ride the tyre flat without it unseating. If your careful you it won't damage the Tim. If your careful that is. I did ride to the bottom of the hill about 0.5 mile on it slowly no problem to a safe place to stop, didn't unseat so pretty good there. Not like my other non tu...

Re: Road tubeless tyres, where and how much?

I appreciate that could have happened to any tyre at any time, didn't intend to be negative about the tyre itself, just was frustrated that I paid for a good tyre to improve cut resistance and ironically get a terminal cut almost immediately! I put a tube in there with a business card I had in my wa...

Re: Road tubeless tyres, where and how much?

I was very pleased with the IRC Roadlite until this happened on a descent this morning, not sure what caused it as couldn't find the culprit on the road or in the tyre, pretty much instant flat. The tyre has done one 10 mile TT on a circuit and two 22 mile commutes and is obviously now a write off. ...

Re: Handbuilt wheels... the big thread

For a bit of context, my wheel build was Kinlin 31 rims, 20h front, 24h rear, sapim cx ray with alloy nipples, hope RS4 hubs set up tubeless with Schwalbe Pro-1. Total cost £512 built myself including tape, valves, tyres, sealant so just over £400 for the wheels themselves built myself no labour cos...

I'm very pleased with my Kinlin XR31T rims, will be using them again. Not the most flash but suit me perfectly.

Re: Road tubeless tyres, where and how much?

I moved from Stan's to Caffelatex a while back which seems good. The rear tyre had a large hole from glass about a month ago that sealed but would not hold pressure in warm weather it would blow again. I booted it internally which has failed, should have just wormed it but the tyre is all but gone a...

Re: Road tubeless tyres, where and how much?

My Pro one rear tyre has pretty much had it after around 2500 miles. Ordered a IRC roadlite from cycleclinic, interested to see if this holds up well in the Chilterns where I ride where the flint has cut the rear pro one quite a bit.

Re: Handbuilt wheels... the big thread

Sorted the wheel out last night, spent a couple of hours removing the nipples out of the rim, re-installing the spokes, tensioning the wheel and sorting the tubeless side of things out.

All good so far, will ride the wheels and see how it goes with the increased tension.
