Re: 100km vs 200km

I typically ride them as one 100 km - when that's done I start a wholly new 100 km ride if that makes sense). Psychologically being at mile 90 with 40 miles to go is depressing to me. Many do it by the info / manned controls - so in smaller chunks. As others said pacing is a factor. I ride at like l...

Re: Cycling Shoes

I have about size 6 us and sidi women fit me perfectly. They run small and narrow - so not great if you have wide feet. They aren't cheap - the carbon sole version is about £300 but they also made a decent entry level with a somewhat less stiff sole. I'm on my 4th pair in 14 years - they last.

Re: Mallorca 167

If you pace you should be fine. Just take the part to top of puig within yourself and then use the last 1/2 to go full throttle on a pace line. Looking at route it's all weighted to the front. The climb out of deia is no steeper that cold harbour lane. Basically it's like pasture wood road - and the...

Re: Weather in Las Alpujarras in November?

i just got back from the area, situated in cadiar. weather showed thunderstorms every day, but we had bright sun every day (rained heavily two mornings, then cleared by 11 am), with it being quite hot in the sun. gorgeous area -- towards trevelez it was definitely a bit cooler with the leaves turnin...

Re: new places in Majorca

I got back on the 15th and don't think that I went anywhere new but did go to few places I haven't been for a couple of years. If I go again next year I think I might have a go with the train from Sa Pablo@ 8.56 am to Santa Maria del Cami arriving 9.29 am. A loop to Andraxt and then ride back up no...

Re: new places in Majorca

i stay in peguera -- which is much hillier than the north as in the terramunda foot hills -- and i realise you say it is far but there is some great cycling -- and it is doable. one option is to pick up the train, i think it is in lloseta to palma and take that climb over to calvia from which you ca...

Re: Shipping my bike back home - Import Tax?

i had that too with FedEx on a birthday gift my mom shipped from the us on which she listed "bike parts - gift" -with a nominal value of US$20 - given a £50 tax bill. the reason they said was because it had been listed a commercial merchandise and my mother was a commercial exporter; they ...

Re: The Brecons

my favourite place to cycle -- and gospel pass is my favourite climb, although i think it is technically in the black mountains. i prefer ascending going north as it is like reaching heaven when you get to the top -- and, as the other poster said, descending that way is not fun especially after it h...

Re: Ride London 2016

the irony is that if you do the route -- or the surrey hills -- after 2 pm on a sunday it is effectively a closed road course -- i usually see a few cars if i go through shere (check out the ye olde sandwich shop -- great baked goods!) and one or two on box hill (which i usually get to around 7 pm)....

Re: Ride London 2016

You're taking the p*ss right - whitedown would be utter carnage with people stopping short everywhere - if they can't get up leith hill put them on that?? And it's pretty narrow with the turn up and right to ranmore sure to cause accidents. The climb up past denbies would be good but the descent to ...

Re: #fail cycle superhighway in London

first time I've taken the superhighway from ps to Blackfriars - and tptb should quickly realise the routing/lights debacle as 30+ of us took the before superhighway road route (across the ped x-ing) ... One lone boris biker on the bike route ... Separately explain the two foot bike lane as you make ...

Re: #fail cycle superhighway in London

perhaps we compile our concerns in a productive manner and send to our new mayor? i am happy to even just put together the comments here and forward with people's permission. the crossings at holborn circus are crazy too, both cyclist and pedestrian -- it is not clear as a pedestrian when to cross g...

How about before super amazing highway & after?
The powers who be should read this thread - some very good points made esp the number of people - seasoned commuters - who think wiser to avoid.

Re: #fail cycle superhighway in London

has anyone seen that random cyclist wait & turn recently painted at holborn circus by the north west corner? not a CLUE who would be waiting there and for what unless one is keen on being hit by a bus. the other issue is that there doesn't seem to be drains (which on one hand is great) so there ...

Re: good sportive in the south west

Dartmoor classic was my first sportive back in 2009 - and it was the best one I've done (may have changed since then - but we got a medal, trophy & pasties as the end). I rode it on a standard 12-27 with no issues. But I also rode the Alps & Pyrenees on that gearing so I may not be the best ...

Re: #fail cycle superhighway in London

i hardly trying to set strava records nor, as a female, feel compelled to dangerously push ahead of every female who is clearly faster than i am (rule no 38, people). but the angle of those bumps is scary and, with my little wheels, i seem to projectile off them. think about kids tootling along on t...

Re: #fail cycle superhighway in London

I really hope people get the single file each way thing - but having commuted on embankment for 8 years I'm less hopeful (the crazy free for all at Vauxhall light is still great fun - and I've actually been elbowed out of the way on the blue super highway!). The best case is if we or one of the cycl...

Re: #fail cycle superhighway in London

I have repeatedly tried to contact ctc while it was being built when you could see the width - no response - & also commented to the tfl during the comment period. I've been riding on it for weeks now & can tell you 100% it can't handle spring / summer crowds. I have never seen cyclists cras...

Re: #fail cycle superhighway in London

It won't make a difference - pedestrians randomly cross, cyclists take stupid risks. worst case is if a cyclist seriously injures a pedestrian jay walking - anti cycling groups will be all over that. i Judy don't think the positives outweigh the negatives on this path right now; it's I herently dang...
