Express Pi as a fraction for me. Be accurate - it’s a quite important mathematical constant.

355/113 ;)

Close, but not correct. Try again. I did ask for accurate, not a very good approximation. :)

Re: Seemingly trivial things that annoy you

“0.5 inch”. That is okay in written form (or 0.5”) but just sounds wrong verbally. Should be “1/2 inch” verbally. In my world anyway. I agree and fractions are much more accurate than decimals. Decimals are just a particular type of fraction. 0.6324 is precisely 6324/10000. Express 1/3 as a ...

Re: Seemingly trivial things that intrigue you

Latest study from Loughborough University has decreed that a couple need an annual income of £47,500 for a comfortable retirement. That's nearly £1000 a week. Really? Is that the income needed once they are retired? Does seem a lot. If it's what they need to save for and provide a comfy retirement ...

Re: Blocked IP

Had this ages ago, and lasted a while. Explanation from BR at the time was they were just blocking a range of IP addresses as the simplest way of stopping the spam temporarily till they could be more specific.

I had to look up who NTT pro cycling were ( dimension data’s parent company and new name for the team). Damn. I used to work for NTT a few years back, and the local boss was a cycling nut. Used to get really good kit made for any staff who rode "seriously". So, I have a set in the cupboar...

In this age of streaming (Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music etc etc) the artist is paid a royalty for every time their song(s) are streamed, but the amount is incredibly small, something a bit less than 1 cent per stream. Sony owns the bulk of the Beatles catalogue these days, bought of Jacko for 750 mill.

Re: Tyres on a 29er to use as a winter commuter

Yes, they’ll technically fit as the diameter is the same, but you may find the 28 in particular is a little stretched wide across the rim, depending on the (inner) rim width of the 29er wheels. If you do use them I’d consider putting the 32 on the front to be honest, as it will have a slightly bigge...

Re: Replacing Campagnolo groupset with Shimano

It's a 10 mm Allen Key, but you need a very long one or some contraption to adapt to a racket wrench ahh thanks, all becoming clear now :) There’s a spring clip around the outside of the drive side UT cup. You’ll need to remove this before pulling out the RH cranks arm. Ahh thanks, finally found a ...

Re: Seemingly trivial things that annoy you

I'm trying to work out what the red spots on the backs of my fingers are, always neatly in between my knuckles. They come up randomly, I seem to get a few within a week then they disappear for months. The part that is trivially annoying is that trying to find out any information about skin conditio...

Re: Replacement front derailleur

Or, you could just ask your LBS. Every Shimano FD from new now comes with the adaptor shims. They make all band-on ones these days to fit a 34.9 tube, saves manufacturing cost if they don't have to do different clamps sizes, and ship them with the little plastic semi-circular spacer shims to suit 31...

Re: Things you have recently learnt

That's one of the reasons I'm so happy to be leaving my present workplace. Historically I was always the quickest to learn how to use new software / systems, and people would always come to me to help them out. They still do TBH. But at 62 I just don't have the interest, aptitude, or mental resilie...

Very slow and time-outs again

Used to have this often, was fine for a while, now getting the Error 503 timeout fairly often again lately.

Why?

Not sure what your regulations are over there, but here it is a standard pharmacy practice to "repack" pills for people who have multiple scripts to take each day into daily "buckets". They supply pill boxes marked "Sun, Mon, Tue.. " etc and if someone has 4 different t...

There's nothing to be open-minded about. I'm completely interested in anything that is based on fact and things that are proven by science. Note that not having a void that needs filling by spirituality or any form of hocus pocus doesn't mean not being open-minded. When evidence of something is sci...

Still both in WIP, but was volunteered to fettle bikes for some friends. Apparently they were "ok, just needed a bit of adjustment" to gears etc. One is a nice vintage MTB, the other a ladies mixte frame townie. Both needed a complete strip and clean, mainly to get rid of the bird poo. New...

He had a beard, he must have been right. He did have a beard - and there's some of his stuff that I don't 100% agree with. But his summarisation of this particular issue is accurate, imo.. Are you sure? I'm not convinced this bit is strictly "accurate". :) "..The seat stays (the only...
