Re: Friday debate: Is there a UK media bias?

I would say the BBC are state-funded, but they're not state run, are they? They don't report to the PM, they don't have to toe a party line, AFAIK anyway.

Re: Injured now with pics!

I understand arrows as a failsafe for internal stuff that any be seen...it just seems OTT for he visible stuff... You come off your bike, your right knee hits the chainring/sharp bit of car/roadsign etc and gets a big gash. Meanwhile your left knee gets wrenched around and does a load of tendon/lig...

Re: Insurance issue following an accident

I think you'd be unlucky to not have third party liability on your home/contents insurance. It's a standard clause in policies.

From looking at that photo I'd say there's possibly a dent above the left hand edge of the rear number plate, so she might not be taking the mick.

Re: A surprise encounter

Report it. There's something about not holding up a queue of traffic in the Highway Code, but that';s very different from being in the correct position through a roundabout. Oddly enough there's a police officer who lives over the road from me with a newish Alfa saloon, the last three letters of the...

Re: Anyone who works for Sainsbury's delivery...

Tesco and asda delivery drivers do similar around here. I suppose it's part of the price that has to be paid for internet shopping

Not really. They can turn the lights off!

Re: Right, talk to me about winter gloves.

Have placed an order for the latest Specialized Radiant glove for the not-quite-so-cold-as-today days, new feature of the touchscreen finger swung it for me

I've got some specialized MTB gloves with the touchscreen thing and it really works. Better than a bare finger!

I've just remembered, the Stans stuff in my rear tyre did this a month after putting it in:

Re: Rear lights for seat stays advice!!!

+1 for the R2.

Just take the back off (as if you were changing the battery) and put some vaseline around the rubber seal. I've always done this and never had a Smart light go dodgy in the rain.

Re: Stan's No tubes kit not available

I wouldn't bother converting a non -tubeless rim.

With proper rims and tyres then it's probably worth it but conversions are very hit-and-miss with reliability and inflation.

Windows live movie maker.

For a quick trim try realplayer as the windows one is slow to load files.

Re: Which sealant...Super Juice or Stan's?

I used superjuice once as it was all the LBS had. Trying to inflate TR Mud-Xs, it just leaked and leaked and leaked. I'd put the sealant in, pump up the tyre, come back an hour later to a flat tyre with no sealant in it and a puddle of sealant on the floor. I repeated until there was no sealant then...

Re: Quick one on tubeless

I also find it easiest to pop a tube in (when the tire is new) inflate to about 40psi, leave overnight, deflate, un-seat 1 side of the tire, remove tube, re-fit tire, pour in sealant via the valve (tubeless valves have removable cores) then inflate. I personally just find that to be the easiest way...

Re: 2.4" Continue Mountain King on an Inbred 26"

I've got MK2s in 2.2 and 2.4 (not on an inbred, unfortunately for you). The 2.4" is smaller than a Schwalbe 2.35" Hans Dampf and the 2.2 is visibly smaller than a 2.25" Racing Ralph or Nobby Nic. So a 2.4" MK2 is probably equivalent to a 2.3" Schwalbe. I don't know if that's...

Re: Where do you preceive the danager to be

Hitting the brakes when anyone is behind you is about the worst thing to do..especially as cycles don't have brake lights if he'd hit you that would have been your fault.

Bo11ocks! If someone drives into the back of you then they're at fault.

Re: Looking for some information regarding commuting.

As said above, commuting by bike needs to be just another form of transport, not something that Wiggins wannabes in lycra do as part of their training. This, look at Holland which has one of (if not the) highest rates of cycling commuting in Europe 1/ Lots of dedicated cycle paths away from traffic...

Re: Looking for some information regarding commuting.

I get the occasional "HOW FAR?!" when I tell people I've got a 25 mile round trip commute, but the biggest reason by far for people to not cycle is safety. We can quote all the stats in the world about the relative risks of cycling vs a sedentary lifestyle but sitting in a car feels much s...
